Tappan stove model # mef352bfwa

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

F3 error code indicates a open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. If you wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter for around 1100ohms....if it reads more then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around or less then 1100ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Are you sure you have a pilot light and not spark ignition? If you have standing pilot as you imply, then just clean the aperturec through which the pilot flame stands. That will do it. Get a fine wire to open the aperture at the pilot.Gently place the wire in the aperture and move it around to clean. you may want to vacuum the pilot assembly first so as not to block the apertures any worst.

Oven door will not close the whole way

Your oven door hinges(s) are broken, the springs that hold the door closed inside the hinges are either weakened or their mounting points have become worn. You need to purchase a pair or replacement hinges which you can fit yourself if you have some basic mechanical skill. Don't try to just replace one side if you determine which side has failed as the extra strain put on the old hinge can cause the door to twist and break the door.

The oven/stove is from the 70's and the pilot

Hello,

Thank you for bringing me back to the early days of my appliance repair career, now a days every thing uses a electronic ignitor and its been a while since i have seen a free standing pilot :)

As far as your oven, when you turn on the oven does the small pilot light increase in size,if not the oven thermostat is the most likely problem and for the most part the thermostats are no longer avaliable. If the pilot size increases the pilot burner could be not properly heating a small bulb in the pilot burner, the pilot burner could be cleaned by a senior tech that knows how to do it correctly OR the small bulb is heating and what that the bulb attaches to (the gas safety vavle) is not opening to allow gas flow to the main bake burner
Depending on your exact model (what parts were used when it was built) the pilot burner and gas safety valve are still avaliable

Ignitors triggering no knob is turned

I had that problem also. It seemed to me that when anyone set the flame too high for the size of pan, the burner overheated. Then when the burner was turned off the igniter made clicking noises for a few hours...till it cooled down.

When I cook at lower settings, all is ok.

I have A Tappan stove model # mef352cfsa and

is the door on the unit locked usually the f3 error code relates to you having to replace the sensor here is a link to the sensor that you would have to replace http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=2126179&pn_=316134900 it looks like this and is found on the inside of the oven usually if you perform an ohms test on an oven tempreture sensor it should read between 1000-1100 at room tempreture any less and you would have to replace if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation Thanks Rick
