Have 2 T5720 radios, one

Check that all the settings for both radios are the same. The one that's not receiving may have a quiet code (tone squelch, or "interference eliminator" code as Motorola calls it) set, and it won't let you hear any transmissions unless they have that same setting.

The radio may be receiving, but have problems with its audio output. When the other radio is transmitting, does the channel activity indicator come on in the display window? You can test that the audio stage is working by pressing and holding the "MON" button (below and right of the display). If you hear static, the radio's audio amplifier and speaker are good.

Another possibility is that the one not receiving is actually okay, but the other one isn't transmitting. Try testing both radios with another one. All FRS/GMRS radios use the same frequencies, so you can use any brand or model for testing as long as they are set on the same channel.

If your testing shows that the radio not receiving is faulty, you'll need to have it serviced by a radio shop or send it back to Motorola for repair. There's nothing you can do to work on these without specialized tools and test equipment. Or just replace the radio if it's past its warranty; it's likely to cost more to repair these than to replace them.

We have two talkabout t5720,

Yes. The solution should be simple. The radios are possibly not set to the same interference eliminator code and/or Qt filter setting. Here is a link to the user guide: http://www.giantintl.com/RadioPDFs/Outdated%20Manuals/T56XX_57XX_User_Manual_E.pdf
You will find the programming instructions begin on page 21.

The frequency, code and Qt filter must be set identically on both radios. For simple basic operation set the code and Qt filter to zero (off).

Best regards.

I have 2 SX709 handsets.

Sounds like a receive sensitivity issue. The radio you have with the static is likely very sensitive to other RF (radio frequency waves) in the area. Turning on the interference eliminator code (setting it to a number) blocks out this unwanted noise. This radio is not repairable, and there is no fix for this problem. The only fix would be to set the "other sets" to have the same code.

best regards.

Can motorola talkabout T5720 FRS/GMRS talk with

Your GP338 would need to be reprogrammed to one or more of the frequencies available in the T5720. If you are using the interference code eliminator, it would also need to be programmed into the GP338. Take your GP338 to your local Motorola dealer for reprogramming.

Here is a link to the user guide for the T5720, where you will find a list of frequencies: http://www.giantintl.com/RadioPDFs/Outdated%20Manuals/T56XX_57XX_User_Manual_E.pdf See page 19.

Greetings, I have 4 Motorola Talkabout T5720s

You did not mention if the display comes on and they look functional, yet do not work. If the radio actually powers up. We will go from the idea the radio powers up and present a few troubleshooting ideas:

1) Clean your battery contacts. Use a pencil eraser and clean the contacts both in the radio and on the battery. If you are using a Motorola rechargeable battery pack, you should also clean the battery contacts on the charger. (Note: rechargeable NiMH and Li-Ion batteries have a 14-18 month life expectancy. Signs of a bad battery include: no or intermittent transmit, the radio shutting off when the PTT is depressed, lots of static when receiving, and/or erratic display.)

2) Set your interference code eliminator (code) back to zero (off), and do the same with your Qt filter if you radio is equipped with one. This will put you back to a very basic operation.

3) Check your VOX or iVOX settings, be certain these are also turned off.

4) Check your accessory jack to see if something is plugged into the hole. Remove any and all accessories to try in a basic form of operation.

5) Moisture is the enemy. Be certain radios are not stored near air conditioners, humidifiers, etc.

If the above items do not solve the problem, you likely will need to retire the units. As for your next venture. If you go with the Motorola TalkAbout line, examine your radios before the one year mark, save the receipt, most have a one year warranty. If you are wanting an all around better radio, look at the Commerical line of radios offered by Motorola, ie. CP110 and BPR40. They would offer a better durability and are designed to do a 40 hour work week.

I have a new T5728

Unfortunately the T5728 is not compatible with the US FRS (family radio service) frequencies. The T5728 operates between 409-410MHz. The FRS radios operate between 460-470 MHz. FRS frequencies are license-free frequencies for use in the US, as regulated by the FCC. Other countries have differing rules and thus their frequencies assigned to family usage differ. Best regards, and sorry we could not help.

We have 8 of these motoroll talkabout radios

This is typically a sign of a bad or low battery. Try swapping the batteries with a known good unit and see if the problem goes away. If so, replace the battery pack. If it is not the battery, the radio has a deeper problem.

Is it true that when charging a battery, if you

We find no evidence for or against this theory. Yet, anytime the battery is in contact with the battery contacts inside the radio it will slowly deplete the battery. If you were to store a radio for an extended period of time, you would want to charge the battery once a month because it would slowly drain itself over the course of time. We've not heard any theories about the charger draining the battery.

You might need to program the frequency, code (interference eliminator) and QT filter (if any) to match one another. We are posting a link to the user guide below. The best choice for simple operation is to set the code and Qt filter settings to off (zero). This will allow you to have basic operation before adding in any special features.
