No backlight condition could be cause by a bad main board, power supply, inverter board, high voltage short on the inverter output, or a bad backlight bulb.

Some sets only have one board. If you are having problems with no backlight, you also need to check the power supply which powers the backlight circuit. Usually it is 24 volts, so check for that as well.If everything checks out fine, also remember that the backlight itself can go bad.

Check the power going to the inverter board (24V) if ok...replace Inverter board....

I see very few sets of this type (any brand) that are more than 6 years old.The bulk of sets in our shop (over a hundred sets on average) that have failed are under 2 years of age.

Classic problem for this TV. Although I have not repaired this model, i do know I would suspect a bad capacitor in the power supply. If you know anything about electronics you can probably fix this. First of all there are at least two boards in this TV. The signal board is the one with all the RCA jacks and RF connection. Therefor the other board is the power supply. This is the board you will be working with. Look for a bulged capacitor or two. You must replace with same voltage or next higher and the Mfs must be exact. Be sure to use a high temp cap(105 degrees). Hope this helps in your repair. Good luck and show all hands for support!

Are you blowing any fuses - if not, good. Hopefully nothing is shorted. Inspect the power board thoroughly for bad capacitors - look for bulging. Inspect the circuit traces for cold solder connections. Also, check the Zener diodes for a voltage drop - one of them may be bad. I don't think the inverter board is bad. I think you're on the right track - THINK!

It would be helpful if I knew what else you had in the setup. Mostly I just need to know if you have a cable box, I will assume this is the case.
I had this problem with my Tv, if it running through a Bose system the problem is most likely with the Bose system, you need to go into the options and go to picture and select Full Screen instead of widescreen.
If you are not using a Bose system then the problem is still fairly simple.

• Look at your remote for the Tv, locate the menu button and press it. A menu should come up.
• There should be a video or screen option in the menu select it.
• There should now be a wide variety of options to choose. Choose the normal option.
• Then close the menu the video should now fit the screen.

If this doesn't work then it be your cable box, to fix that you follow the same steps just using your cable box remote instead of the Tv remote.
If this doesn't work comment and I will see if I can figure out another problem.

Dark picture. I adjusted brightness, but it keeps getting dark. It has vertical lines that can be seen in grey areas on the screen.

Lay down the tv picture screen on a soft flat surface.Check all the screws holes and take out all the screws.Take ur hand holding on to the tv and base stand tight.Pushes in and out few times.The base stand should came wright out..
