There is no need of using the HDMI link. If you look at the back of the TV you should see the RGB PC connector:
Also look here for your
Macbook specs. Look for the VGA out connector.
All you need to do is connect the VGA out from Mac to the TV's RGB connector and connect the audio link to the audio connector beside it. Next select the RGB as input. You do need a separate Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter though.
If you think that you can only view HD images using HDMI then you should not worry about that. VGA connector supports all the resolutions your Macbook offers including higher HD ones (1920 x 1280). In short its just an alternative HDMI.
I suggest you try my advice. I'm sure you will find it more satisfying than the HDMI link one. If you are unsatisfied I can work out another solution (although this is the best solution in your case).
If you feel satisfied, you may go ahead and accept my solution.
