Buy a new battery. The battery is dead. Batteries only have a useful life, then they have to be replaced. If the power cord works and allows you to use the laptop, then your battery is definitely bad if it does not charge or if it does not let you stay on the computer without shutting down after a short period.
click on your start menu and in start search type msconfig that should take you to the correct system recovery.If not check the control panel for back up and restore
I assume you put in the sd card and nothing happens - no autoplay options. If you click start-computer, do you see the card reader listed with your drive letters? If not, you are probably missing the driver for the sd card reader.
Go to support.acer.com - service and support - drivers and downloads.
Follow the screens to find your laptop and you should see the driver there. Download it and install it and the problem should be solved.

Why do you think you need new firmware for the drive? Is there a problem with the drive? I've rarely seen new firmware fix issues. I've seen it introduce lots of new issues though.

Terrible storm, did that include lightning ? If you re-installed windows, did you re-install the correct Acer drivers ? Turn off the computer and take the battery out of the laptop over night and then put it back together and 10 to 20% of the time, it re - boots and un-freezes the modem... The modem has a small brain that is why u unplug the battery over night to try to get it working correctly again.... Also check for Acer drivers for that modem..... When you say play DVDs you mean watch DVD movies? Assuming the drive is not broken you need to use the DVD app. You could use VLC Player which you can download. It's an orange traffic cone icon.
Could be it has overheated and the NVidea chip is damaged.
No idea why they are called laptops as to put them on a lap blocks the ventilation and they will overheat.

I found out in Google that this tablet has Windows 8 on it.
You can install Facebook on it by going to the "Microsoft Store".
If it didn't install, check if your operating system is 8.1
