Homelite ZR10926 16 Chain Saw - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Hi
Where can I buy chainsaw
Home depot, lows any hardware store, call around first and if you mean bar oil 30 weight oil non detergent oil will work just fine.3 in one oil will burn the bar and chain because it's to light.Tighten chain so you can pull chain 1/8 inch from bottom of bar then pull spark plug cover off to the side and screw driver cross ways to pull chain to check for binding. Please use gloves for this.I have someone hold saw or sit on the motor after I sharpen the chain.Stay away from the end of the bar cause that's where kickbacks happen.Keep the saw off to the side of your body when cutting. One last thing when chain is sharp big chips, dull sawdust until you learn how to sharpen best let saw shop do it for you.

You don't get it people, no MATTER WHAT I DO, the
Quit doing what you are doing before you cut yourself. The cut could kill or cost $10,000 just to live with an ugly scar. You chain is not staying adjusted correctly.
My Homelite does NOT do this. But my neighbors
Poulan did. It thrashed the chain against the spike and threw it completely off. The adjustor didn't work right and an attempt to bolt it tight also failed. So I ordered the spike and the whole cover/brake handle/chain adjustor kit for it. Should get here from Sears in a week for under $40 USD.

Either that season's gas dried in the
carburetor affecting it's operation or you are drawing air through a
fuel seal somewhere. Both are common with this model. Sometimes will
start from cold and run up to half speed until you take the choke
off. Then it just dies from not drawing gas. Status proved if it revs
up if sprayed with short blip of ether from 7" away at the moment
it dies. Do not try to keep it running on ether more than a minute.
Like pure gas, it'll burn up the engine or worst. Do not use ether if
the air is not moving. Ether may collect and explode.
On a gas chain saw,
there is usually a fuel/oil ratio (i think yours is 50:1) you must buy the 2 cycle oil and mix it with gas at the ratio reccommended by the manufacture. the bottle may say 6 oz per 1 gallon = 50:1 So 1 bottle of 2 cycle oil for every gallon of gas. mix them in a proper fuel can. then let the cutting begin.
Chain oil tank full, feed
There should be a oil adjusting screw on the bottom of your saw next to the bar beside the oil tank. Some models actually has the screw inside the tank. Drain the tank to make sure there isn't any debris clogging the hole where the oil feeds to the bar.
One way to check to see if the bar is oiling is:
1. Start the saw
2. Put a board, piece of cardboard or an uncolored old shirt in front of the bar
3. Press the trigger on the saw to allow the chain to circulate around the bar.
4. While keeping constant pressure on the trigger, look to see if there is a vertical line of oil on the piece of material you have placed on front of the bar. If the saw is oiling you will have a vertical line. If not adjust the oil set screw accordingly.

Organ makes a replacement combo bar/chain for the j3816. Part # is 105700. You should be able to find it in most stores like Lowes or Home Depot. You could also go on line to wwwOrganchain.com. Hope this helps.

The filter is dangling inside the fuel tank on a length of fuel line toward the back of the tank--use a hooked wire to catch and pull the filter out of the tank. Check the line end for decay while there and replace the line if in trouble. The far end of the line is attached right at the carburetor body. Use original line type, not plastic. Check the muffler for plugging and repair or replace it if damaged. Hope this helps!
The chain on my chain saw is slack.
The adjusting screw is usually found on the right side of the saw close to the bar, near the bottom. You will need to loosen the two nuts on the side that hold the bar tight. Loosen them until the bar lifts up and down (about 1/2") with your finger.
There should be a combination spark plug wrench and screwdriver that came with your saw. If not, use a slot screwdriverto tighten the chain while you hold the bar up with two fingers.
When adjusted properly, there should be no hanging slack in the chain when it is warm. It should rest just against the bar so that you can grasp it with gloves on and pull it toward you.
When it is tightened thusly, tighten the two side nuts while holding the bar up with two fingers. If you don't tighten the two nuts enough, it will loosen and the chain will have slack again shortly.
Remember that the hotter the chain gets, the looser it will be. Make sure your chains is getting plenty of bar oil. Never use regular motor oil.
My saw smokes profusely while runing and seems to
There is no common connection point within the engine itself. A possibility that the plastic lower case which contains the two tanks in a common casting has developed a crack between the two tanks which would seem to indicate fuel in the chain oil as well. Replacement of the plastic casting seems to be the only remedy. Make sure that you are using 50:1 well-mixed fuel to oil ratio. Another unlikely possibility is a very loose crankshaft output bearing/seal assembly that could be drawing chain oil in from the chain area. Check for this by removing the bar and chain, then try moving the center of the clutch assembly in various directions. If perceptible movement is noticed, replacement of the bearing and seal would be desirable. Hope some of this helps!
How does the chain tensioner work?
When the bar fasteners are finger tight, the tensioner is a long screw that turns in a special guided nut which has a finger that pokes into one of the large holes at the drive end of the bar. As you turn the screw, it draws the bar outward from the engine thus tightening the chain. Hope this helps!
