Fantom Vacums FM741 Twister Bagless Upright Vacuum Questions & Answers
What makes the vacuum overheat shortly after
There can be several problems causing the vacuum to over heat. First, if the odor is similar to that of a car tire burning rubber...it is the belt rubbing on something. Unplug the vacuum, turn it upside down on a newspaper ot old towel to keep the mess down, and remove the cover plate that is over the roller bar. There are 2 screws~one on each side of the cover. Put the screws in a safe place like a ziplock. Check to see if there's a build up of hair on the roller. Cut it off with scissors. There could also be hair under the belt on the roller. The belt is very flexible and can be pushed to the side to access cleaning. An exacto or razor blade can be CAREFULLY used to cut this buildup. If the odor is sweet electrical smell...unplug the vacuum immediatly and take it to a repair shop.
How to clean the filters?
Most of these filters that look like white paper can he rinsed thourally and dried completely for re-use, although the manufacturer would want you to purchase a new one. Do not scrub the filter...just rinse well an tap most of the water out to speed up drying. Do you have your manufacturers manual to locate the filters? If not, most can be found online.
The part that vaccums the carpet will not turn. I
If your roller doesn't turn, it's most likely your belt. Unplug your vacuum, take pictures as you go for easy re-assembly. The nelt is either accessed from a side plate that will say 'Belt' or from underneath by removing the screws on the cover. They slip on and off for easy repairs.
The wiring for the power
You can buy a second hand one on the internet for parts or contact the company if you still have a warranty, perhaps they can replace the whole thing or return the whole thing if you still have a receipt.
