CALLER ID ONLY SHOWS "INCOMING CALL"

Hi all,

I have recently bought a Uniden DSS 7955 cordless phone with 2 additional handsets. It has got integrated answering machine as well.

I bought this phone from Australia, but now using this phone in India.

I have Caller ID enabled from my network provider, and the caller id works fine in the other phone I have got. However, when someone calls, the Uniden phone only shows "Incoming Call". I have also made sure that the caller is not blocking their number. So this happenes on any call I receive.

I have gone through the manual, and have also tried to reset all the handsets and base, but no result.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I was using this site while trouble shooting this in the US...
If the customer has DSL with filters in the same system go back to the NID and Isolate the DSL,
test the caller id and call waiting caller id. If this works you have Data Bleed coming from the DSL.
Make sure there are not two sets of filters on the line. Tjis customer had a filter with the DSL modem.

Doing this we just fixed an on going problem for a field tech who was the second callout on a customer issue.

I just had the same problem. Try unplugging the plug from the electrical outlet for the home(base) unit and plugging back in. Fixed my problem right away.

I had the same problem. Something makes the phone's memory get "stuck."  Take the battery out of the phone for a minute and then put it back. Then unplug the phone and plug in again. You need to do this with all extensions. The problem goes away.

How to set up Speed Dial on a Uniden phone?

My mother has a cordless uniden phone with no instruction manual. The model # is EXP4540. We need to know how to set up the speed dial for safety measures.

My Mom had this same problem.   I found these instructions on Uniden's website (uniden.com) under the "Owner Manuel" section.

Here you go - good luck!

Using the Speed Dial Memory
Storing Numbers in Speed Dial Memory
Your cordless phone can store up to ten numbers (up to 20 digits each) in the speed dial
memory. To store number in memory:
1) When the phone is in standby, press [memory]. The talk/batt low LED flashes.
2) Use the keypad to enter the phone number.
(To enter a 2-second pause between numbers, press [redial/
pause]. Each pause counts as a digit. )
3) Press [memory] again.
4) Select the speed dial location where you would like to store the
number ( [0] to [9] ). You will hear a confirmation tone indicating
that the number has been stored.
NOTE:
• Storing a number to a speed dial location will
overwrite the any previously stored number without
warning.
• When storing numbers into memory and the handset is idle (i.e., no key is
pressed) for more than 0 seconds, it will beep rapidly, and then the phone
will return to standby.
Dialing a Stored Number
1) When the phone is in standby, press [talk], and listen for a dial tone.
2) Press [memory] and enter the speed dial entry ([0] – [9]) that has the stored number
you want to dial. (If you enter a digit that does not contain a stored number, the
handset will beep rapidly, and the phone will not dial.)
Chain Dialing
The speed dial memory is not limited to phone numbers. You can store any number (up
to 20 digits) that you need to enter once your call connects. This is referred to as Chain
Dialing. An example is a frequently refilled prescription number. Store your pharmacy
phone number in one speed dial and your most frequently refilled prescription number
as another speed dial. To use, once you ring your pharmacy's automated prescription
line, simply press [memory] and the speed dial number where you stored your account
number.
Erasing a Stored Number from Memory
1) With the phone in standby, press [memory] twice.
2) Press the number of the speed dial entry. A tone indicates that the stored number is
erased from memory.

blocking a phone number

How do I block a phone number on my cordless phone?

if you want to block your own number dial *67 before you dial... to block someone else try dialing

To activate Call Block or add a telephone number to the rejection list, dial *60. If you dont know the number to be blocked, dial *60 immediately after hanging up from the call. To turn off Call Block, dial *80. Call Block cannot block calls from some cellular phones, pay phones or business lines. It also cannot block most long distance numbers.

hope this helps...please rate...thanks

How do I take Uniden

How do I take Uniden phone off line in use/hold? I cannot use phone at all or receive calls.

It depends on the reason for the in use message on the line. It could be the phone or the wiring. To diagnose the problem, I like to use an old corded phone.

Plug a different phone into the jack (where the cordless base is); use a new telephone cord. Do you have a normal dial tone? If yes, try the cord with the cordless phone's base; if this doesn't solve the problem, then the problem is the phone. If the phone is bad and under warranty, contact Uniden. These phones are really not meant to be serviced by the user.

Otherwise, try the second phone at another extension. If you get a dial tone, then the problem may be the jack where the cordless phone's base is plugged in. Try the cordless phone and see if you still get the message.

If you didn't get a dial tone, find where the phone service comes in. If you have a new install, you will find that your service line uses RJ-11 jacks. Plug your second phone into the jack and check for dial tone. If the phone still doesn't work, call your phone company. There is a problem with the wiring to your location and they will fix it as part of providing the service. Otherwise, the problem is with the wiring inside your home.

For indoor wiring issues, check any exposed wires for damage. Open the wall plate and check for a loose wire. Some will terminate with screws - just loosen the screw, strip more of the strand wire's insulation if needed, wrap it around the screw and tighten carefully. Others will use a keystone jack. Open the cover (just lifts off) and check the strands. You may need to remove the wire, cut it back and strip a new section of the outer insulation. Then using a special tool push each strand fully into the appropriate slot (do not strip the strand insulation). This tool is sold in many hardware stores in the wiring section alongside the keystone jacks. A plastic version is included with many keystones.

If the wiring problem is deeper inside the walls, you may want a professional. Your telephone provider will do this for a fee.

I hope this helps.

(a few weeks ago, we had an open line due to mice eating the wires near the road. It wasn't the first time for the problem. We've also lost a dial tone due to a failed filter for the DSL after a lightning strike and when a road crew dug up the wire by accident.)

Error message CHECK TEL LINE

Error message CHECK TEL LINE my phone line is connected and i followed all the right steps to connect my handset to the base HELP!

This sort of issue requires you to check if the base or the phone line has a problem.

I prefer to use an old corded phone for testing. I also get a new RJ-11 cable. Unplug your phone base from the jack and check for dial tone when you plug in your test phone.

If you get a dial tone on the test phone, try the new cable with your cordless phone. If you still get that message, then the phone has failed. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer for repairs. If it is out of warranty, then determine if it is worth fixing or replacing. These phones are not designed to be fixed by the end user.

If you do not have a dial tone, take your test phone to another jack on the phone line. Check if there is a dial tone at that point. If there is a dial tone, the problem is at the first jack or the phone line to the jack.

If you still do not have a dial tone at the second jack, find where your telephone service comes in. Open the box and determine the type of connection used. If you are lucky, it will have RJ-11 connections. Plug your test phone into the jack and check for a dial tone. If you do not have a dial tone at this point, call your telephone company. They will fix the problem for free. If you find that the connection is not an RJ-11 type, call the phone company and have them test the line and repair it if needed.

If you have a dial tone at the service box, then you have an inside wiring problem. Inspect the visible wires for damage. Open the faceplates for the jacks and check for loose wires. There are two types of connectors. Screw type connectors need the wire stripped back a little then wrap around the screw and tighten. The other type is a punchdown jack. To repair a loose wire in this, you will need a punchdown tool. These are often available in hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx has clear pictures of the wire color to pin pattern.

You may want a professional to check the wires inside the walls. Your telephone provider will do this for a fee.

I hope this helps.
