It's not hard. and in fact doesn't even involve any soldering - the only memory card format that is electrically compatible with an ATA drive is Compact Flash - but you can get adaptor cards that will let you plug them directly into the ZIF interface that the 1.8" HDDs use.
Obviously, you want the biggest CF card you can get your hands on - once you install it, you will need to connect to itunes and do a system restore, since obviously there is nothing written on the CF card.
I have done this myself with an iPod classic and a 32GB CF card - the battery life seeems slightly improved, but only slightly.
Could you please add a picture of the components which are heating up crazily? There is a good chance these are voltage rectifying chips. Those will boost the voltage up or buck the voltage down to a specific number.

If they are the Apple ear bud clones, there is a technique to get them paired and both working. You get the left to work, or you get the right to work!!
Tell your phone to Bluetooth Search.
Press the On button for one earbud.
Press the On button on the other earbud and then double press the button on that one.
Go to the phone. At the bottom of the Bluetooth list you will see two numerical entries that say paired. Ignore those. In the top list of Bluetooth items you have used before, you will see one that is the Friendly Name for your earbuds (mine says i12-TWS). Press that once and it will change to connected. Then both will be connected.

On the other hand, it controls the level of signal that is input from the Apple TV, it may be overmodulating

There are two ways to delete music from your iPod. The first is to delete songs in your iTunes library and have iTunes sync your library to your iPod automatically when you plug your iPod into the computer. Unfortunately, lightning may have damaged your equipment beyond simple fixes. Most likely the sensitive circuits inside are blown, and you may need to replace them all.
Did you try a different charger and charging cable? if you did, then probably the buck/boost converter connected to the battery is broken. This is an advanced repair to do, but you can try to look on ebay for a charging port for your ipod model.
