Does that digit position in the display work at all? If not, you could disassemble and reassemble the unit with special attention to the conductive rubber connector between the LCD display and the circuit board. Make sure that all are clean - use rubbing alcohol on a swab to gently clean everything. Most of the time that is all that is needed, but not always. Moisture from breath or oils from user's skin sometimes cause this to happen.

have you put the phone into the nbn modem because if you havent it will not work
the land line goes into the mmodem and to get the phone to work the phone line has to go into the phone socket in the modem
