Westwind Classic Hugger Polished Brass 52" Ceiling Fan Questions & Answers
Replace Harbor Breeze fan switch
There is a common wire, usually the black one. You can easily test this
by using the continuity setting on a multi meter. The common wire will
create a connected circuit to each of the other three wires (if the
black wire doesn't work, it is possible one of the other wires is the
common--you may have to try more than one).
Once you identify
the common wire, this goes in the L hole on the switch. Before
attaching the wire to the switch, however, you can now determine which
of the remaining wires runs the low, medium, and high speeds of the
fan. With the power on, simply touch the black wire to each of the
other wires (ONE AT A TIME) to see which is low, medium and high. When
you have determined this, attach high to hole 1, medium to hole 2, and
low to hole 3.
Good luck, and of course, always be careful when working with live wires.
Trying to replace 3 speed ceiling fan switch
Hello,
The black goes to the L connection the others are a guess. You can do this two ways. Connect the colored wires in any sequence and then see what switch sequence give you high and lowest, the other one will be medium. Once you determine that, mark the wires with a piece of masking tape as high, medium and low. Otherwise you connect them, turn power on and use a multimeter to see which color gives you the highest voltage and which gives you lowest. Since you aren't comfortable using live wires and a meter, go with the first option and use the process of elimination to find the wires giving you the speeds you need to find the highest and lowest. Next, you need to determine how your switch sequence works. First pull has to give you highest speed. so you may end up wiring them in reverse if your first attempt is backwards. There is a reason the first pull needs to be highest, it powers up the motor so you can then chose a lower setting. A low setting first will over tax your motor and wear it out eventually as it has to work harder at first.
Let me know if you need further clarification and perhaps this is all you need to get fixed.

ps I checked on the Internet of a wiring diagram and I bet you did tok all to no avail.
Wires won't stay in new switch
Take it back and get a new one. If you're buying one off the rack, then it's probably going to be the wrong one anyway.
Harbor Breeze fan light keeps blinking on and off.
That's what you get when you buy a low-end store brand fan. Also, you should never buy a hugger fan unless your ceiling is under 8 ft. Most hugger fans are worthless. They have a cheap motor and no blade pitch.
I'm installing a fan/light, the
ive seen this before use the white and green hooked up to the power
the black is the ground
i no it sounds crazy but ill bet it works
i hope this helps you

My fan and light do
If neither the fan nor the light work, check that there is power to the fan unit first. If it is remote controlled and there is power to the unit, any relays would be on a PC board inside the fan and will not easily be replaced.
Ceiling fan has the normal
Do NOT attempt to connect this fan to this ceiling box!
In the USA, a color code is employed to quickly alert the electrician about the voltages found in circuits. Black, red & blue insulated wires with a white colored neutral wire indicates a standard residential 120 / 240 volt system. Brown, orange and yellow wires with a gray colored neutral on the other hand, indicates a common commercial or industrial 277 / 480 volt system.
Since I don't know where you live, but it could be the USA (or other country that also observes this color scheme for system voltage identification), I urge you to contact a qualified electrician. If you insist of checking it out yourself, please exercise EXTREME caution. Accidental contact with 277 volts will burn and most likely kill in an instant.
If it is determined to in fact be a 277 / 480 volt system, the fan you selected will not be able to be connected to this circuit as it is a 120 volt fixture. Connection will result in damage, fire or worse.
I hope this helps. Please rate my reply - thank you!
