My dc18ra makita battery charger flashes red and green lights no matter how many bateries i try

The pcb inside the battery has a microcontroller that monitor the charges and charge cycle. When the cell falls below a certain voltage, it will instruct the charger not to charge and will show with a red-green flashing light. If the battery has been tried 3 times in succession then the pcb will brick itself from the makita charger. So first replace the bad cells. There are 2 solutions at this moment: charge with a 3rd party lithium charger like the imax b6 or replace the pcb with a working one. check out my blog on http://mkbl1830.blogspot.com/

Hi both red and green

If both lights are flashing it means the battery is defective so it won't charge it. By defective it could mean the battery is just worn out or there may be a short in the battery. If the battery is under warranty you can get it replaced at a Makita Service Center, if not you have to buy a new battery.

How can I reset chip on my Makita lithium ion 18v battery

Based on experience I can tell you that it is is generally the temperature/cutoff/individual cell monitoring sensor in charger that dont allow the batteries to take a charge. Once the same condition is detected 3 times by the same charger it considers the batteries to be bad and refuses to accept it. I have 2 batteries that wont charge on one charger but works perfectly fine when i charge it on my other Makita charger so basically there is no problem with my batteries.
I would suggest first you check the voltage of your drained battery by a test multimeter. For 18volt battery if it is close to 18volts 1-2 volts less is just fine! Then there is no issue with your battery. Makita chargers are very expensive hitech which is useless in my opinion the lipo chargers (used in rc hobby) example skyrc are better quality cheaper and does a better job and you can easily charge your makita battery with it as well but this is only recommended if you decide not to go with Makita charger any more. Some basic information about multi chargers for Li-ion battery to follow the safety is make sure you use the right connectors with correct polarity. For 18v volts max voltage should not exceed more than 20.50 and the allowable charge current is 2.7amps also ensuring that batteries dont heatup.

Makita DC18RA charger conversion

You can't use the same capacity as it gives you a very
large and expansive capacitor.
I used the max. diameter of 30mm that could go into the PCB of the model I have and it is 470uF 400V
You'll need to replace another capacitor, see my mod page !
This works !

I added another HowTo page for modding the DC18RA from 110V to 220V , you can find it here
all the components details are in it

Have fun and good luck

Armatures are new designed in a short time 23465970-2oroqqetjko0hjqmfukebeah-4-0.jpgleft the armature of the old but same cdd 18 milwaukee no problems you can change only the brushes and its working again right the same modificated armature marketing technical a new design of this JOHNSON Armature (Johnson is also used in Panasonic powertools bv EY7441 ) it has much more force in the same armature but the heat dissipation plays tricks and if the brushes are to short replace anytime BOTH (the brushes and the armature look at the difference of the turns of the coil front right look the later design more and thiny wire on it more power force but a bad heat dissipation in about 2 or 3 years the brushes are on its end take by heavy work a more powerful tool its better longlasting then this machines Makita has oft a better armature but there are also posibillities in some tools.

My charger is accidentaly connect

Is this a 110Volt version that you plugged into 220v?

There is a ceramic Fuse inside the unit that might be blown. It is the first thing on the circuit board near the power cord connection.

Open the unit up and post a photo of any burned components ?

Can my makita bl1830 battery

This battery has a known design defect that causes premature failure. The battery is still probably good, but the safety circuit n the battery spuriously locks it, due to a bug. Once locked, it won't charge in the Makita charger (flashing red and green lights). Makita knows about this problem but so far is not actively recalling the batteries. Makita will replace the pack if the charge count is under 150 (some people say 300?) regardless of warranty status, but you have to take or mail it to a Makita Service Center -- the dealers won't handle this unless it's in warranty. http://www.makita.com/en-us/Modules/Service/ServiceCenters.aspxIf Makita won't fix it, you can try to repair it. If the red and green lights are flashing, the battery is probably locked and cannot be repaired in a way that will let it be charged in the Makita charger (but it can be charged in off brand chargers). Buy a clone charger on eBay for $60 and try it. If it charges, just use it, no repair needed. Be aware that lithium batteries do lose capacity permanently at a rate of about 20% per year. So, 3-6 years is about the best battery life you can expect - from date of manufacture, so if it sat in the store a while that adds. Makita derates the cells to allow for some shelf life (down from 2400 Mah to 1500 Mah rating). If the battery is weak, and only gives brief usage, you can replace some of or all of the cells in the battery. These are expensive and worth repairing. See this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5taguEdlkYIf just 1 or 2 cells are weak, you can replace them with the same Sony 18650 size 2400 Mah capacity battery, green sleeve. The Sony's are not sold retail, and are hard to find other than from another Makita pack or from some laptop packs. If more are weak, you're better off just replacing all of them with new 18650 2400 Mah (or higher) batteries with tabs. Look for Tenergy or other quality brand. Hope that helps.

I have makita bl1830 battery

If both red and green lights are flashing after you put the battery on the charger, the charger is reading the battery as bad or defective and it will not charge the battery. It may be because there is a short in the battery, one of the cells is bad or the battery is just old and won't charge anymore.

Rebuilding makita battery instructions

Rechargeable batteries are almost never worth rebuilding and never last very long when they are. In some cases, Makita being one, if the circuit board in the battery detects something wrong with the battery, it 'bricks' the battery. This is not resettable and the battery will not charge on a Makita charger. I'd be looking to get my money back from the repairman since his rebuild didn't take.

Ihave 110 volt makita dc18rc battery charger,

I had the exact same problem. I ordered the ZNR V10 241U part from Dija Key. They are around 36 cents if you buy 10 of them. I cut the old one out and soldered the new one in. I changed the fuse over to an automotive one so the fuse is easier to obtain. I plugged it in and charger works fine. What happens is a voltage spike either low or high gets recieved by the charger. The fuse appears to be slow blowing and does not stop the spike in time. The spike is stopped by the varactor surge supresser. In doing so, it saves the circuit board so all you have to replace is the fuse and the surge surprsser.

MAKITA LXT BL1830 18V LITHIUM-ION 3.0AH BATTERY

If the charge count on the batteries is under 300, Makita will replace them. Makita has a known defect in this battery that causes the battery to shut down before it is dead. So as of now they are exchanging ones with low use.If they are truly defective and makita won't replace, you have to open them, find the dead cell or blown fuse, and replace. Search youtube makita battery for a video on repairing this battery. But once the red and green lights on the charger flash, the the battery can't be charged on a Makita charger -- it's been locked. So use a third party charger.
