Braun KSM 2 Electric Blades Grinder Questions & Answers
My Braun KSM 2 has died, suddenly, after about 10
There is a second switch, similar to the user accuated switch, which is opposite the user accuated switch when viewed from the bottom of the unit. This second switch is controlled by a piece of plastic which fails when the device overheats. I am currently seeking to replace that part on my unit.To fix the problem you will need to replace this part so that the second switch is closed. Both of the two switches on the bottom of the unit must be closed in order for the unit to operate.
My grinder has been working fine until this
if you ground for a long time...20-30 seconds, you may have burned out the thermal control protection that keeps it from catching fire. It is a guess without more history.
How long is it safe to continuous grind
I burned mine out and had to repair it by trying to grind a pound of beans. I say pulse works the best--2-4 seconds each burst. One can grind 5-10 seconds but it heats up inside and in my case, contact melted (metal) from ongoing current to motor via switch. I rigged it but would recommend staying under 10 seconds. pulsing works best in coffee grinders and food processors.
Bosch Coffee Grinder KM13
This is a picture of a KM 13. This grinder stopped working and I think it was the switch that caused the problem. All I did was reassembling the switch - which consists of a thin piece of copper - and cleaned the points where the coils touch the rotor.
How many seconds of grind for standard drip grind
I've long ago lost the manual that came with my grinder (I actually don't remember if it even had one), but I don't think it listed grinding times. You just grind a few seconds and check, then grind a little more if it's still too coarse. Unlike a burr grinder which is adjustable, in a blade grinder the same grind time may result in different consistencies as you change beans. By now I've just learned how long to hold the button for the different beans I buy, and the first few times I try a new blend or varietal I have to adjust the time. I think you'll just need to experiment and then you'll know what works best for your tastes.
