Can't seem to pick up small items like lemon pips

It sounds like your belt is broken, OR your beater bar is rotating but has not been adjusted downward to reach the carpet pile. Check by running the vacuum and looking to see if the beater is moving.

I bought a kirby g5 with no manual and can't

you can turn your Kirby into a handheld by removing the handle (button down on the bottom) if it came with all the attachments. Take the big handle off attach the small one onto it and you can take it and clean your couches, bed, stairs, etc. had mine for twelve years never had a problem with it.

See if THIS helps.
Not sure how far you went disassembling the unit so here are a few more useful articles that you may want to see:

Kirby G5 rear wheels lock up completely when in "Drive"

When wheels lock when vacuum is OFF - it is normal. If it happens when Kirby is ON then there are a few things that may have gone wrong

Primary drive belt is broken or something is wrong with plastic gears. See how to check the primary drive belt HERE.

If it is fine and gears are spinning - then something must be wrong inside the transmission. Parts for tech drive are not available from manufacturer so you are on your own. It is not really complicated - 2 clutches that engage and disengage depending which direction you push the vacuum. But if something in there is broken - you have to get a new tranny. It is not like getting a transmission for a truck but it still will set you back by about 100 $.

Good Luck

Kirby g5 vacuum

Either the cogged belt broke, or you will have to pull the transmission and see if something came apart. May have to replace the transmission.

My Kirby G3 makes a loud, high pitch whistle with the hose

I would say you either have something stuck on the impeller or there is a piece of paper or something stuck inside the hose. its not clogging the hose but when the air passes by it. It is making that noise. If you find nothing you may need a repair. May have a bad bearing in the motor. Actually you can also try inspecting the brush on the head. It removes easily from vacuum and should spin freely and quietly.

KIRBY g5 wHEEL CHANGE

It is 0.027 inch thick and 0.28 inch inside diameter.
Or just go HERE and buy it. However we ship only PRIORITY and we have 2.00 handling charge so shipping for 0.75 clip will be $7+ but if you will throw in some bags belts - it will make sense.
Tu put it on - I would not buy any special tools. Simply push it onto the axle with tip of pliers. if you end up bending the clip and it does not stay on - use pliers to shape it back to original shape and try again.

Wherever you buy it - buy 2 or 3 just in case if it gets lost.

Good Luck,

How to shampoo stairs

HERE is the manual
When rating my solution rate the clarity of the explanation NOT whatever you like Kirby stair shampoo system. I do not believe this is the way to shampoo either but this is not me who designed it. Will get the job done but it is a lot of scrubbing and rubbing.

I have a Kirby G5 vacuum that when light pressure

I hope adjusting position of the position of the "pivot spring assembly" will help. but you may have to disassemble entire slide assembly to clean it up if it still does not work smoothly. See instructions HERE (adjustment is explained in step #6). Try to "play" with screws #4 and if it does not help - clean slid.

G5 motor is on it's way out

If you are the original owner, you can send it to Kirby rebuild and have them rebuild it.For a non-original,it is around $300.They go thru it,replace the parts needing replaced, buff the metal covers to remove the blemishes, and send it back to you.It will look and operate as it did when you first purchased it.Call Kirby Rebuild in Cleveland,Ohio.
