Kirby G3

Beginning with the G series, G3 and G4 had round openings for the dirt intake. Prior models had oval so they will not fit, so find G3 or G4 bags and you will be set

Do not know how to connect hose to bag to utilize

You will connect the hose to the front of the vac after disengaging and removing thehcarpet head.
Lift the headlamp up, rotate the lock tab There is a square grip below the headlight. Rotate it left180 degrees to remove the belt drive and the carpet head.
Now insert the hose in the same position and rotate the teardrop shaped lock tab to lock in place.

My Generation 3 Mini Em-Tor is broken. It looks

Hi there SmartAlec from nelsonvacuums.com.au here. It really is that simple Your local kirby dealer should have one in stock and it really is a common item. They should fit it for you if you actually go there. Or if you prefer to order it online just verify first before buying that they will give you the cable tie type clamps as part of the deal.
Happy vacuuming :)

How to install Kirby g4 fan

It needs to be stripped completly down, if you are confident at doing this then here goes.
It has been a while for me so take your time and some of the steps may have to be completed slightly differently.
Isolate / unplug the machine from the mains
Remove the bag, handle and front roller assembly so you are left with a bare machine.
Remove the rear switch cover - 1 x screw.
remove the top aluminium cover 2 x screws at the back and 2 x screws at the front below the light.
You should now see the motor and tech drive.
Remove the tech drive, tech drive belt and rear wheels 4 x screws below the machine.
Remove the wiring to the motor noting the correct connections for putting back.
unscrew the motor 4 x screws inside (think) and two at the front below the fan aperature.
remove the motor and fan complete.
To remove the fan, note the hole through the fan shaft close to the belt position, this is for leverage when unscrewing the fan, hold the motor shaft, insert a small screw driver or punch through the shaft hole and unscrew to remove the fan.
Re-fit in reverse order.

How do I detach the cloth bag from my Kirby G3 Vaccuum to wash it

I would clean the bag by blowing it out with compressed air (lightly). If you do wash it, do it by hand in room temp water and air dry. I'm not too sure how to remove the whole bag on that model. You should call your local vacuum dealer to inquire, and ask the same question you asked here on Fixya.

Vacuum won't switch on;got it apart;cord ok;need wiring diagram

Its a great idea to write on paper how its connected . So it helps with dis assembly & reassembly . I tried a Internet search . Looks like it'd cost money for a service manual. Though. I found a Kirby Spares Website that could help. Although it doesnt have Document downloads with repair help. There are spares & there is a telephone number for an engineer available during office hours. That you could ask for repair help. With wiring connections for your Kirby G3.

http://kirby-owners-club-shop.com/faqs.htm

The Engineers Telephone Number is 0845 388 9301

I repaired my Parents Kirby Heritage some while ago. With a new set of Brushes. Bulb Repair.

They are a Great Machine. Bit Expensive. Though Tough & Well Made !

The bag latch on my Kirby Generation 3 broke. How

at the bottom of the bag, there is a zip tie around the plastic part that turns & snaps on to the exhaust hole of the vac. also take a flat screwdriver & pull up the rubber under the zip tie...all the way around, like u would take a bike tire off a rim . then pull the bag holder/tube thru the bottom, then vise versa, when u put it back on.

Kirby g3 tech drive

so when u pull it back it's like it's not engaged at all? then it maybe the reverse is out....with the fwd soon to follow. remember the vac is 20yrs old; & working that long? it definately served it's purpose.
depending how much money you wanna spend on it buying a new or used trans. plus labor...or just an ebay used unit.

Do i want the green light on or off on kirby upright

It has nothing to do with the green light. Green light simply indicates that brush roll is spinning. If there is no green light:
1 - belt may be broken
2 - Improperly installed nozzle
3 - wrong brush roll is installed

Properly adjust the nozzle - turn the Kirby on. Keep lowering the nozzle till it touched the carpet and you will hear change in sound. Then lower it by one more click.

Our G3 Kirby will not power up?

Either the cord or the switch is bad. The cord is simple. Take the tab screw on the back of the machine off and the screw holing the cord cover off. Pop off the cord cover un-plug and remove then reverse steps to replace. If it is the switch that is better left to proffesionals so call your local vacuum shop.

Ran over cord and the vacuum shut down, won't

sounds like it might have broken a wire in the cord and may have to replace the cord unless you can find the broken wire and splice it back together
