The Steam Mechanism Won't Operate

hi there,

I too am having a similar problem with my breville espresso machine. Whereby i used to be able to froth the milk with no problems but these past couple of days, the steam button light is illuminated, when i turn the knob to steam the milk, the steam button's light goes off and the hot water gets illumintaed and all i get is hot water. It also does not make that thumping noise it usually does just before the steaming begins. Please help!

I have tried clenaing it, letting the hot water run for a few minutes (not just seconds) but still the issue isn't resolved. I am thinking about taking it back to the manufacturer as it is still under warranty. Only prob is they are on the other side of the state :o(

Many thanks,
Alison

No heat

Same problem with mine. There was a burnt connection on the heating block.
To fix this: 1) Unplug!
2) Unscrew top, 5 screws total. 2 on the back near the top, 1 under the water reservoir lid, and 2 up inside long black tubes located on the front two corners of the overhanging section. 3) Remove top, you'll see a large chunk of metal with a lot of wires connected to it. any one of these could be bad, but in all likely hood it's one of the 2 main power wires to the heating block. These are located on the back of the heating block. 2 metal posts with a flat piece if metal welded to each and a spade terminal on over that with either a red or blue wire. (colors may very, but i imagine it's universal)

For me it was the left of these two connections that was bad, the flat piece of metal was burnt and the connection was broken. To fix this I found a small metal clamp and clamped the spade terminal to the flat piece of metal. Soldering probably won't work, because the heating block could get hot enough to melt the solder, so this was the only suitable option. Short of actually removing the heating block and welding a new piece of metal onto the post.
4) Fix broken connection, if there's no obvious broken connection, or discoloration of wires, then it could be a bad heating block. Changing the heating block would be difficult to do safely for the unexperienced, so attempting this isn't suggested.
5) Return top and screws. 6) Make a delicious latte to celebrate

Low pressure from steam wand

It sounds like calcium has built up in the machine. Try running pure vinegar through the machine a couple of times. Hopefully that will clean out the calcium and it will start working again. I had the same deal with a coffee pot that took forever to run the water through. After two sessions of vinegar it worked like new

Espresso Machine Stopped Working

Mine stopped heating (pumped only cold water) and when I opened the top of the machine I noticed that the blue electrical cable to the thermal block assembly (probably to the thermal fuse, but I an not sure about that) corroded and was loose. I fixed the connection and since then the machine heats perfect.

Breville ESP8XL Espresso Machine Cafe Roma leaking.. help please..

We had that happen and it was a crack in the black ring that holds the filter. Breville could not supply us with one but we found an OEM part in aluminum from http://www.vancouverwireedm.com/caferomadiyt.htm. We received it 1 week after ordering. It was pretty easy to replace. Our machine works fine now.

No steam, just hot water.

The steam wand has to be removed to be cleaned properly. Unfortunately, this procedure is not outlined in the manual. Just cleaning the wand on the outside or using a clip to clean the tip is not enough.

The other end of steam wand where it connects to the pressuring cabin actually swivels around a fitting. It is this fitting that you need to thoroughly clean. Years of using the machine can cause calcification around this fitting.

If you look under this end of hte steam wand, you should see a philllip-headed screw. Before you loosen this screw, you have to remove the grey trim so that the entire wand can be remove.

Once the entire wand is removed, what I just described will be much clearer.

Extremely loud squealing noise during steaming milk

This could be blocked. The best way to clear this is to switch off the machine and see if you can dismantle the frother arm. Sometimes the arm will come off by unscrewing. If it does, wash it in hot water and washing liquid. If it doesn't come off try putting the frother wand into a mug of cold water and allow it just to steam the water.
Frother wands don't just steam liquids - they **** up liquid which can block the vents and the actual steam hole which this machines' problem sounds like it does have.
