Karcher K 5.85 M Electric Pressure Washer Questions & Answers
Karcher just stopped working
It sounds like a motor capacitor burned up. Alternatively, a wire could have vibrated loose from the capacitor. Look, but do not touch the capacitor(s), as they can hold a charge that can hurt -- or even kill you.The trick is to be certain they are discharged before handling. To do this, use a screw drive with a well insulated handle and touch the top of the capacitor where the wires are. The metal blade of the screw driver should touch both sides of the capacitor at the same time. Then, if there is any charge being stored, you will see a pop and that's it -- it is not discharged. You can buy a new capacitor at any place that sells AC and Refrigeration supplies. Take the old one with you so they can match the microfarad capacity. Just venturing a guess here, but if you want one that fits perfectly back into place you may have to order it from Karcher (because those units are built in Europe I think).2. The motor may have shorted (gone bad). If that has happened, perhaps you have some warranty. Electric motors are generally warranted a little longer than the PW in general. With Karcher, I don't know. If there is no warranty on the motor, it may be better to buy a new pw than to replace the motor.3. The problem could be a mechanical issue with the pump/unlooader. However, I would think this would be the least likely scenario. If what I've given so far doesn't get you rolling in the direction of being resolved, please followup here. I'll be watching. And if it does get you moving in the right direction, please take a sec to rate me. Thanks!Don
My Karcher pulses when on standby, stops when i use
Is there a leak from the bottom ?
If so Problem, the leak is from the seam of the Manifold housing. There is a small crack in the seam. A design weakness.. A New Manifold Complete Replacement approx. $61.03.
If not you may replace the Pump Manifold Housing from Karcher, or locate a local Karcher Service Center.
If under 1 year old, and you can find a receipt,Karcher will replace the entire Pressure Washer under warranty.
MOTOR HUMS THEN TRIPS CIRCUIT BREAKER
The pump is blocked or the motor shaft going into the pump is seized. You will need to remove enough of the cover to expose the shaft and pump..... You can try WD-40 or a penetrating oil from a spray can... and then try to rotate the shaft by had or "carefully" with a tool - vice grips or plyers......
Karcher k 3.99 does not pause correct
Is there a water leak from the bottom ?
Is so, then there maybe a small crack in the seam of the plastic manifold pump housing or one of the connecting fittings. A New Manifold Complete about $61.00. You may purchase direct from Karcher, and replace if you are mechanically inclined.
If under 1 year old, and you can find a receipt, Karcher will replace the whole Pressure washer under warranty.

I have a karcher 495, it is puslating when it is
It sounds like there may be a pressure leak somewhere in the system. The machine cuts off when there is no flow of water past it. If it is leaking then there is intermittent flow. Which would make the machine run then stop continuously.
