The motor's pull start seems locked. How do I

Usually what I do first is pull the pump off the engine. After doing that use your hand to back the motor's shaft up about a quarter turn. Then without the pump on try to start the motor. If it starts put the pump back on and try to run it. Sometimes the crank and piston get set just perfectly so you cant pull it over. If that doesn't work post here again and I will help you further.

Pull start wont pull fully

Usually the rewind spring or spring anchor points are broken. The starter must be disassembled and the parts inspected. Remember the spring is under tension! [There are many different types of starters, and a manual is a good idea if you are not familiar with them.] If the starter is hard to pull, remove the starter and then try it. If the starter is ok off the engine, check the engine itself for a seized or oil-locked cylinder. Remove the plug and pull rope the motor, if it will now spin and oil blows out the plug hole- then gas from the carb is leaking into the sump; or the engine has been tipped for a long time

Cant start the unit ,there

Trying to start a pressure washer with water supply on and gun trigger off will be a difficult task. It could be comparred to trying to start a lawn mower with the mower in tall grass. Place the mower on the drive or walkway and pulling the rope to start the engine is much easier. It is easy to start your pressure washer with no water in the system however there is a remote possibility that you could overheat the seals if you take too long to turn on the water. It is a little more difficult to start the washer with water supply on and someone holding the trigger to wand open. This will prevents pressure from building and making engine hard to start. You will not damage your washer if you start it with water supply off if you flood the pump and pressure hose with water first . Here is the procedure I use if i am working alone. I trun on the water to pump and open trigger to gun to allow water to flow into pump and pressure hose. Turn off water (leaving the water supply on will make it a little harder to pull starter). Start engine while holding trigger to gun open. When engine starts release gun causing unloader to activate circulating water in pump. Now turn on water and you are ready to work. If your system is under warranty however, I would advise to use the starting procedure outlined by mfg (hold open trigger to gun however). To get the longest life from unit try using it at say 75% of capacity or lower if your can and use max pressure on the tuffest jobs. Leaving your washer at full pressure for all jobs is like driving your car at 100 mph everywhere your go. Good luck.

The water will not pressurize , why not

If the unit is running and there is a water supply, the relief valve is probably stuck open. Locate the valve, remove it, check the spring and ensure that the poppet moves freely in the housing. Reassemble the valve and try the machine.

I recently purchased a northstar 4000 psi pressure

The injector might be worn out or have something inside of the valve causing it not to ****. If you are using a new high pressure hose or a longer hose this may also have an effect over the injector not working.

I have a trailer northstar

Most likely problem is that the unloader is bypassing water. As unloader wears it will by pass at lower pressure. Try lowering the pressure at the regulator to lowest setting then raise pressure a little at a time untill unloader releases then lower to prevent unloading. Using a slighly larger tip will do the same thing. Using a larger tip size lowers pressure.

What is the red cap on the cat pump for?

The red cap is for adding lubricating oil for the crankcase in the pump. If oil is coming out of it while it is running a seal in the head wore out and water is getting into the crankcase and displacing the oil.

NO PRESSURE

Before you start up the pressure washer, hook up the garden hose, turn on the water, and wait for the water to come out the wand.(keep the triger depressed) If the water just mildly sprays out the nozzle then wait a few minutes for the air to bleed out of it. If the water just drips is has a weak stream then there is an obstruction either before the trigger or the nozzle. If you see water running out of the pump then your pump has damaged seals and/or cracked ceramic pistons. Pressure washers are great but need care. They can not be left out to freeze or it will damage unit. Also they can not be DRY STARTED. They must have water running through them, before start up or it will burn up the seals. If you have any other questions or comments pertaining to this issue please let me know. I will do my best to assist you. Thank you.

Oil leak at top of pump

The oil in the pump is probably leaking because a seal is blown and water is getting into the piston housing. Take a look inside at the oil. It should be brown and translucent. If it is gray, white or milky, you have a blown oil seal. This reservoir should only be 1/3 full of non-detergent oil to begin with. Hope this helps

Why does engine bog down when I press spray nozzle in?

If it really bogs down to where the engine is struggling....it's the carburetor. It's not allowing the engine the fuel/air ratio it needs for peak performance.

How do I release stuck quick connect on my NorthStar pressure washer?

If it is a twist coupler which won't turn, i use a pipe wrench or channel locks. If it's a quick coupler socket and the sleeve won't pull back, the quick coupler plug is bad. If you can't get them apart, both should be replacedTodd Lehkereplaced.
