NRS Fleck 5600 - 64,000 Grain Timer Water Softener - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I have very low water pressure on my 4 year old
The pressure loss is due to either a plugged distributor/manifold or upper basket. The head must be removed for access to the manifold and upper basket. The manifold runs from the head to the bottom of the tank. This is where all the soft water is drawn from and is the most likely cause for pressure loss. Water must be shut off and tank depressurized before attempting to remove the head of softener to access these parts. Clean the slots in the manifold and upper basket. They are probably plugged with iron, resin and/or gravel and re-install.

Softener does not start up will not operate
HI Robert, If it is not starting on its own the cause is usually one of two things.1. The timer motor is bad (not keeping TOD) Many models the timer motor serves as the drive motor also.2. If it is a metered system it may not be counting the gallons and not prompting regeneration.Otherwise check for salt bridges, a faulty electrical connection or plugged eductor assembly. The first two are when you definitely know it is not regenerating on its own.You can try a manual regeneration and see if it goes through regeneration on its own, if so it is most likely the meter assembly not reading gallons. Most systems with meter assemblies will have an "icon" that flashes when gallons are being registered.Let me know the model of valve and I can help you solve your problem easier.RJ
Omnisoft water softener
I think when it come to soft water they are a waste of time and effort. The Tucson, AZ water supply may be low but it is tasty and free. Just avoid the hassle and mess.Jason Smith /

Kinetico Water Softening Unit has brine tank drainage problem
This sounds like the resin cylinder is perforated or connections at the top are leaking. The brine tank should only have a little water in the bottom - if it is full of water (maybe even up to the overflow?) then you will need to replace the resin cylinder or fix a leaky connection to it.
Is the water in the brine tank 'rusty'?
We hyave a Watco water softener odel 844, we or
if you have a smell like rotten eggs you have a hydrogen sulfide problem which you can treat in two ways you can add on a carbon filter that regenerates with either chlorine recomended or an airator system which you will smell on the side of your house you can have your hydrogen sulfide checked to see how many parts per million yuou have in your water
Fleck 5600 will not regenerate
Need more info ! Is this a meter control, or day wheel ?
Does the clock keep accurate time?
If you reach around the back of the timer control box, on the left hand side, can you feel heat from the timer motor?..It should feel a bit warm
Aquafine Sensimatic will generate manually but not automatically
I am not familiar with this brand. If it is not regenerating automatically that usually indicates it is not metering the gallons/usage (there should be flow indicator FLASHING on the control board) or the programming was reset to factory specs causing unit to not regenerate often enough and running out of capacity. If you can post a picture of the unit it will help.RJ
Hi, power was lost in the house about 4 weeks ago
On the Fleck 5600 the timer motor also serves as the drive motor. It is on the back side of the control in the upper left hand corner. Reset the time of day and see if it keeps proper time. If not the timer motor needs to be replaced. If the control is an sxt model the circuit board may be bad from a power surge.RJ
Phone icon is on and E2 as well
The valve is stuck in cycle. Unplug the unit for 2 minutes and plug back in, it may reset itself. If not service will need to be called.

Don't think its working was
Please make sure the unit has not been bypassed. After plugging the unit is plugged back in, reset the Time of Day, check to see if it keeps proper time. If it is keeping the proper time, start the unit into a manual cycle. The first cycle (backwash) should take 10-15 minutes. So see if it progresses through the cycles. You will need to regenerate 2x to get soft water back. Also make sure the salt in tank is not "bridged" causing a large block at top, but no brine in bottom of salt tank.
If the system does not keep time you will need to replace the timer/drive motor.

Where to put the salt?
Dump the salt in the separate brine tank. Always keep salt/brine tank at least half full. If you want to run a manual regeneration push the regen button. For delayed regeneration (2am) push once, for immediate regeneration push twice.

Our water softener makes a
A softener will generally make a high pitch squeal when it is backwashing. This is generally the first cycle in most softeners. It may also do this during the final fast rinse cycle. The second brining cycle takes about an hour. That is why you may have a delay in the squeal. Also I have seen at times when a power surge can force the drive motor into a short backwash. Usually just a few minutes. It may help to put a surge surpressor at the water softener plug.
