Culligan Under Sink Water Filter - Page 6 Questions & Answers
COULD AN OLD UNDER SINK WATER FILTER GIVE OFF A
Absolutely! This is a common problem when filters have not been changed at regular intervals, improper method of changing filters, contaminating the housings and filters introduces bacteria into the system and there is no better place for it to live and prosper. Any drinking water system needs regular sanitizing to prevent the buildup of bacteria. If the drain is not properly plumbed in with an air gap, cross contamination can occur from the the DWV line also.
This system is no longer safe to drink from. The good news is it can be sanitized and filters replaced to get you back in business. www.softenerparts.com sells a sanitizing solution for RO systems and the filters you need also.

If you have an air gap faucet and the water is coming out there. The drain, for the RO, is plugged up or the drain line is pinched.

I changed the filters, put
There is no air pressure in storage tank. Take the supply line off the tank, pump air into the tank until all the water is out. Then let out enough air until there is 7lbs of air left. This is bladder tank and they loose air pressure after a while. Hook it back up to RO and you are good to go.

No water coming out after replacing filters
Make sure all the valves are on (water feed, tank valve, etc). Leave the faucet on for several minutes to see if it needs to purge air in system. Sometimes carbon fines can plug up the head and restrict flow also. Make sure empty tank pressure is correct (3 gallon tank should be 7psi).

The flush rate is dependent on the Membrane used (IE: 16gpd, 35gpd, 50gallons per day), the TDS of the water, the amount of water used daily from the RO and the size of the storage tank. When the RO is creating water (depending on TDS) you will waste about 3 gallons for every gallon of product water. If the system is under the sink and drains directly to the DWV line then yes the drain should be run through the AIR GAP faucet to prevent cross contamination of the RO system.

Leaks on the top of black box of culligan water
Is this a reverse osmosis drinking water system? If it is it is an H8 RO. If so shut the water off that feeds the RO. The leak is probably coming from one of the fittings, they can be cut by the compression fittings and leak.

Holding tank doesn't seem to
Either there is too much air in tank or not enough. If the tank feels heavy then air needs to be added. Empty all the water in tank (force it out by feeding air into schrader valve) then set tank pressure to 7psi for 3 gallon tank.

I own an old Culligan
It is quite common to loose air pressure in the RO over time. At times the tank will be full of water but will not have enough air pressure to push water out. Take the tank of drain as much water as possible, for 3 gallon tank bring pressure in tank to 7psi, for 10 gallon tank pressure should be 10psi.

How do i stop a
You need to clarify as to what type of water filter system. If the leak is in the tube itself, you can replace the whole tube or cut out the bad part and put a coupling there.

Make sure the line to RO tank is not pinched. The automatic shutoff may have some carbon fines in it. It can be taken apart and cleaned. Also if you are using a piercing valve to feed the RO make sure there is enough water coming from the valve. I would take the filters out again just to double check them also.

I have a 3 filter
The storage tank probably has low air pressure. On a 3 gallon RO tank empty the tank completely of water and adjust tank pressure to 7psi.

I would check air pressure on your tank to make shur the bladder has not developed a leak. If you get water out of air valve then you will need to relpace tank. Pressure should be around 3-5 P.S.I.. I would also check all filters again especially inlet to see if they have gotten clogged up . We are on a rural water system where we live and the phone company is just finishing up running fiber optic lines.Nneedless to say they have hit the water lines several times and I have been replacing our filters about every two months just for the two of us. If yours has a R.O. filter of 5 microns or less make sure you replace it to. Thank you.
I am changing the filters
If your filtration system is like mine, you turn off water, release pressure by pushing button, and then untwist the filter holder. Cartridge filters are reversible. If your filter holder unscrews, you can clean it out. Use hydrogen peroxide to clean any water container, for example a water heater with rotten-egg smell, water purifier, air conditioning pan, thermos, dehumidifier etc. You can also pour boiling water into the filter holder.
Hydrogen peroxide is also first aid for cuts, minor skin infections, chigger bites, spider bites, mosquito itching, and sink disinfectant. It is an oral debriding agent. It is not a drinkable substance, but a bit in the water pipes will not do any harm. It is perfectly safe for cleaning your filter.
We have a RO system
This usually indicates low pressure in storage tank. A 3 gallon tank should have 7psi pressure when completely empty. Also if the unit is fed by a piercing valve it may be faulty and not supplying enough water to RO.
