Delta TP305 12 - 1/2" Portable Planer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Sniping

You get sniping with all planers and it will always be the length from the cutter head to the second feed roller. Until the board goes under the second roller it is almost impossible to feed it through and not get some sniping. The same applies to the outfeed side also. Better made (more expensive) planers, table extensions and holding up on the end of the board until the other end is under the second feed roller will reduce sniping somewhat but you'll always have some sniping.

Why does my TP305 takes off more material at the beginning and at the end of the board than it does in the middle? It is a considerable amount. I've cleaned and tightened everything I can.

This is called snipe and it is a common problem. There are two feed rollers, one before and one after the cutter. When one of them drops off the board, the cutter drops down a little. You can minimize this by taking very light cuts, even making your final cut a second pass without lowering the cutter at all. You can also use a scrap piece of wood immediately preceding and following your good piece (it has to be long enough) And of course you can start with your good piece over-length. Good luck.

My tp305 removes more wood on the left than on the right. There does'nt seem to be anmy way to adjust this, is there?

These portable planers have a not-negligible amount of flex to them, and you will probably remove a bit of wood even if you run the board through a second time on the same side. But try this to determine if you would want to try to reset the blade height---- run two narrow pieces simultaneously on the left and right. Check the thickness before and after with calipers or something precise. Then switch the two boards and run them again without changing the setting. If it is only cutting on one side, and the thickness was significantly different before the second run, then you might want to adjust the blades in the cutter-head. Good luck.

When feeding a board say

There are a possible number of causes, few of which can be adjusted away.
However, check to make sure the base of the planer, the table under the board is clean and free of pitch and scratches or debris that could interfere with the smooth passage of the board. I use Trewax or some other paste wax on mine to facilitate the board's passage.
You may have a feed roller that is tighter on one side than another, i.e. it is closer to the table on one end than the other end of the roller. It's unlikely there's anything you can do about this, even if you were to make the appropriate hardwood block needed to measure the roller's height at different positions across the table. Small portable planers are prone to this, and often your only recourse is to hold the board straight as it feeds through the machine, by exerting gradual pressure on the side against which it twists.
Finally,it could be the boards that you're feeding into the machine are not flat or have non-parrallel faces to begin with, so the knives of the planer are forced to take a deeper cut off one side of the board. Take a lighter pass and see if the board runs straight. You might be hogging too much off for the planer.
Or the knives could be dull, or knicked, or improperly adjusted and not parrallel to the cutterhead.
But this can be a problem even with industrial quality machines. Normally we just hold the board straight and move on the the jointer or the table saw. It's frustrating behavior, but you can only spend so much time tweaking machines, and then you have to get on with the woodworking.
Hope that helps somehow.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

My depth handle turns on

Hi,
Could not believe there was not a way to "lock" the depth, but it seems that it has been overlooked on this planer... went and took a look at the exploded diagrams and don't see anything...

So... I guess that you will need to devise a way to hold that handle in one place...
For me it would just be a matter on looping a bungee cord over the handle and then hooking it down to the bottom of the planer...that way the handle would not be free to spin as it wanted to or as the vibration tried to spin it....
It really should not take much to hold the handle in one spot.
If you want something more professional looking you could look on the net or in a hardware fro a collar with a set screw that would fit over the screw part....take the handle off and slide the collar down over the screw...once the depth is set then tighten down tha collar and it will keep the screw from spinning open as you are planning...

My delta tp 305 feeds

Hi. It means two things to me.
1. You may be trying to get it to cut too much in one pass. Cut less, and cut twice, or even three times. You'll get a smoother finish with less deformities in the wood.
2. When you say ridges, it can be several things, depending on how they appear. If the ridges are running across the board and parallel to the cutter head, this would make me believe in the "you're feeding the machine too much too fast" theory. If the ridges are running long ways down the board, this usually indicated a nick in the blades.

Constraints about making a Jaws of Life model with cardboard, split pins, syringes and plastic tubing.

Question edited for clarity, otherwise this question makes no sense. I presume you mean a MODEL of the Jaws of Life. The only issue I can think of is the the friction of the secondary piston may be too sticky on the wall of the smaller syringe but if you fill the system with water, you will get true hydraulic results because air can be compressed but water can't ...

I need 4 springs for under blades for a pro tech cs6007 contrator series planer

you can find replacement blades (also known as knives) made from a special V2 alloy (high-speed steel) on the MyWoodcutters website. Each set includes 3 HSS blades specifically designed for the CS 6007 model. The cost for a set of 3 blades is $61.50 to replace the springs for the under blades, I recommend checking with a local hardware store or contacting ProTech directly to inquire about availability.. For other parts or accessories, consider exploring online marketplaces like eBay.
