AO Smith 1 1/2 HP 115/230V 56C Replacement Motor Questions & Answers
Motor not working.
You need to find out what is causing the capacitor to short and "blow up or smoke". Then you will have to replace the capacitor again or the motor will never start up. Sounds like you either have a dead short or you bought a faulty Capacitor. Not uncommon for a 220+ volt Capacitor to be bad right from the factory. I replaced two Capacitors before I had a quality one, but after I replaced it twice I have had no more problems. Make sure to grease the motor through the grease fitting on it. The life of your motor depends on it.
Sprinkler pump
Something similar used to happen to me. My pump was located outside, and one day I just happened to brush out the space between the metal contacts that come together to turn the pump on. They are housed under the swicth-box-thingy. Turned out ants would crawl in there, and contact couldn't be made. I hope this helps! It's certainly a cheap, easy fix, but something you'd never think about. Good luck. Karen
