under the carb, bowl is there an electric fuel shut off. sometimes they stick shut or hardly open so sounds like it is open enough to fill bowl with gas but not enough to keep it running

must have trash under needle and seat and its not stopping your gas flow. you may have electric fuel shut off that's not closing it would be located under your carb. with a couple of wires going to it. check your oil level also it may be way past full

Its your key under flywheel, its sheared or partly sheared. it doesn`t take much to get timming off.

Clean the carb and the fuel lines usually caused by dirt

check intake valves for proper seating. If the valves do not close completely it will allow the engine to backfire thru the carb. Another possibility is internal timing caused by the misalignment of the timing gears between the crankshaft and cam gears.

I would still say it's a timing issue. Check the spark plug leads go to the correct cylinders. Was there a woodruf key locating the flywheel and did you replace it? Check points and any cams or anything to do with the ignition.

Have the starter motor checked out as it is probably has brush problems or gunk on the commutator check terminals are clean and not rusty
