The main difference between baseball and softball catcher's mitts is that the softball mitts have slightly less padding. This allows the softball catcher to grasp the ball easier, because it is much bigger than a baseball.

Little league bats go up to 33 inches in length. Anything above that is not considered "regulation."
As a pretty avid baseball player, I through about two gloves every other year. I personally think that it is better to get a stiff, strong leather glove so that you get more use out of it and mold it exactly to your hand.
The short answer is yes. They are dangerous because they shoot heavy projectiles at a minimum of 40 miles per hour. If you are using a pitching machine, it is imperative that you wear the proper protective gear such as helmet, chest and leg guards.
