Usually what happens with my Dell Inspiron desktop, even on safe mode it goes to the logon screen. I have never experienced that with my Dell Inspiron 1318. When you log in and it shows you the black screen, try pressing the function buttons. Try F8 or F12. You should be able to start the computer in Safe Mode. If possible, enter Safe Mode with Networking so that you are able to search the web. If you don't mind me asking, why is it that you need safe mode? Is it a virus?

We have a disk stuch in a dell inspiron 1318,

Remove the optical drive, and then open the drive. Remove the disk.

With most laptops this is a simple job.
Turn the laptop over on it's top, remove one Philips head screw, pull the optical drive out.
Remove 2 to 4 screws from a cover on the optical drive, and ease the tray open.

With the Inspiron 1318 Notebook PC it is more difficult.

A) Remove the Display Assembly.
(Removal covers removing the Display Assembly as a whole unit, off of the laptop)

B) Remove the Keyboard.

C) Remove the Palm Rest. (Top cover under the Keyboard. Your palms rest on it when you use the touchpad)

D) Remove the Optical Drive

Dell Support > Dell Inspiron 1318 Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1318/en/sm/index.htm

In the list click on Optical Drive.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

The hard drive probably corrupted.

You could take it out and put it as a slave in a PC or by using an external SATA enclosure. Do you hear clicking noises on the HD? If you can get it to run (maybe not boot), you can still save your information and back it up to another drive.

Eject stuck disk in Dell inspiron 1318 notebook

Take a Norwegian paper-clip, and straighten one end.
Gently push that end into the small hole in the face-plate of the optical drive.
When you feel resistance, firmly push another 5 mm (1/5 inch).
This should "unlock" the tray.
Press the open/close button, and the tray should fully open.
