The clicking sound may have been insulation / plastic in one of the electrical components cooling down after failure. The problem is more than likely the motor or lid switch. If you are capable, remove motor wires / plug, insulated same, plug into the power, turn on & see if it trips the circuit breaker. if it does not it is the motor, if it still trips check other electrical components.

Tape the washer lid closed. Using a putty knife, press and unlock the two front top locks. The locks are approximately six and a half inches from the outside edge of the washer

It's a faulty relay on the control board. If you remove the top panel and remove the boards you will find a spot burned out on one of the relays. The inlet pump is not being activated. One possible cause is faulty communication between board and pump or the other could be the pump/relay itself.
