Hi,

My Tom Tom XL was doing the same. After several minutes it would revert to a demo and you would have to tap the screen to make it disappear, but would come back a few minutes later. I spoke with Tomtom Customer service, and the guy on the phone told me i have to plug it into the computer, go into the tomtom from My Computer, and delete a folder names Scripts. After deleting the folder, it's now working perfectly.

Base from the description of your problem this is a sign of a corrupted software on your unit, so what we can do here first is to do a reset , press and hold the power button of the unit for 15 seconds while power is ON and check if that will reboot the unit and make it working.

But after doing that and still same problem the unit needs repair already and better to send it back to TOMTOM for repair.

Wait for the battery to fully recharge, The battery was ln a low state, are you sure you were using the correct USB cord. Some look very similar but one of the inner cables is disconnected and so does not charge the unit.
If you still get no luck after using correct cable then it may be time to change the battery as it has collapsed. batteries last up to 2 years and can go very quickly. Never plug it into car power whenhj starting engine. It shortens battery life and damages siirf chip

You can safely plug it in overnight, if you wish so and if it is safe from burglary. It will not discharge your battery as these units takes only very little power.

follow the steps below:

1. Touch the center of the screen to bring up the "Main Menu" window. A list of options will appear on the screen.
2. Tap "Change Preferences" and "Set Clock" to bring up the "Set Clock" window. Several additional options are available in this window.
3. Press the "Sync" button on the screen to set the time on your GPS unit. The TomTom One will use information from the satellites to correct the time on your GPS unit.

The code is gotten by hooking the unit up to your pc -via USB cable -then going to the website. You may have to download the 'download manager' and or just download a file so the unit can talk to the website - but - it is FREE and they will download the code automatically once hooked into their system.

I hope you have TomTom home installed on your computer. If you already have it, then it is pretty simple. Else, follow this procedure. 1. Connect the USB cable to the TomTom. (connecting this end is difficult, so connect this end before you power on. In fact, this is the only part I hate about a TomTom) 2. Switch on the TomTom. 3. Turn your computer on. Once the booting of the computer is finished, 4. Connect the other end of the USB cable to your computer (note Tom should be on at this point of time) 5. wait a few seconds. 6. You computer will first install Tom and then ask you whether you want to install TomTom home software. say yes and complete installation. (just follow the screen prompts) 7. Create a login (register) and password. If you have already have all this done earlier. follow this procedure. Connect tom to your computer open TomTom home software. wait till it update and settle to the Tomtom home home interface page. It will say manage your Tom the easy way here on top. And you will see a few buttons with: Add map, Add traffic, voices, safety camera etc. click on Add traffic, voices, safety camera button. On the page that opens, Click on Point of interest button. On the next page that opens, you will see a list of POIs. The easy way to find what you want here is to use the box next to search. Type in Home depot and click on search. You will see list of Home depot locations. I guess you are looking for Canada home depot locations. If yes, scroll down to Home depot Canada. select it and click add. Wait till that information is added to your Tom. once finished close Tom home software and safely remove your Tom from computer. Switch off Tom. switch on Tom. Search for Home depot in your POI list. This time around you will see you get one that is closer to you provided the latitude / longitude information is there in the list you downloaded. Most chances are that it will be there.

Here is the way to find the Lat/Lon Info on TomTom.
Tap on main screen. You will be taken to Main menu 1 of 2. Tap on the arrow. You will move to Main menu 2 of 2. Tap on Browse map. You will see the lat/Lon info on the bottom left hand corner (of a selected location) Tap on another location and you will see that the lat/Lon will change to that of the newly selected location. You can use the slider on the right hand side to zoom in or zoom out so that you can get the Lat/Lon info of far off locations. However, for this purpose, google maps would be a better option. But if you know the address, use the find button which will give you easier access to Lat/Lon info.

Tap On the main screen. You will be on the Main menu now. Tap on change preferences. You will be on the preferences 1 of 6 now. Tap the arrow till you reach preferences 5 of 6. Tap set units. Tap on Kilometers. tap done. Keep tapping done till you reach the main screen.
