Juliet. Most likely the scanner lamp, or scanner control unit assembly is defective. If you're technically savvy, you could remove the scan glass and lube the shaft that the scan lamp assy slides on. Sometimes that will fix it. Otherwise, the whole top scan unit will need replacing. That could cost over $300 for the replacement.

If you have already removed the paper from the output bin, check the delivery flaps to make sure they move freely. If they do, remove the top and make sure the sensor flag isn't broken and that the sensor is connected and undamaged. If it is connected and undamaged, check connector J213 on the engine controller is seated correctly. If it is, you probably need to replace the output bin sensor. See attached video

Usually a failed formatter is the problem on smaller printers where they will not come to ready. Try disconnecting any data cables going from your computer to your printer and restart. If it comes to ready, you might have a corrupted print job stuck in the print spooler. If it does not come to ready when not connected to a computer then the formatter is done.

you need to make sure that your printer is supported by TWIN , you can do that online.

The last option under the system setup menu allows you to chose your language.

Try Engine test:turn on device open tray 1 and load paper (1 is the manual feeder)when you open tray 1 there's an engine-test switch, found it and press itEngine error are also cause too much resistance from toner, fusor or gears. Remove toner and check that it roll with your fingers on gears, and do same with fusor (could be very hot warning - should be hard move it but not too much) and with printer off and fusor removed check if you can move any gear manually (this can be harder but will help you determine if it's board error or resistance cause a gear problem).Any previous error happened with the printer can help to diagnose (jams, power off while printing...)

hey, Its a scanner error - often these can be fixed. The poster above forgot you have 2 scanners. Your error refers to the laser/scanner which is the unit that writes the information to the drum of the toner cartridge for printing. A bit different and a little harder to get to. The laser/scanner is the black box that sits above the toner cartridge on the frame and you have to remove the scanner/adf unit to get to it. The service manual has directions. When you remove the laser/scanner it you open the black box carefully you will see a chrome motor wheel towards the back that spins. Usually the shaft of that motor has become to tight with debris or other material and can not get up to speed. Sometimes there is a small clip that secures the motor in place and other times you can just lift up the chrome piece and it comes out. In either case you need to place one tiny drop of synthetic oil down the shaft of that motor, put the chrome piece back on, spin it a few times to make sure it is smooth and then put everything back together. It should then work. If not then the laser/scanner needs to be replaced. The first thing you will want to do is check the flat ribbon cable on the left side of the printer that plugs into the board. Most commonly this type of jam is paper jammed somewhere between the paper tray and the cartridge. As you did not state model I cannot be more specific than that.

Most likely the formatter in my opinion.

Knocking usually means the gears are not turning the cartridge rollers properly. This would be why it probably doesn't knock with the door open when you run a motor test. Take the Cartridge out, close the door, and and let the motors turn and see if it knocks still. While you close the door look to see if there is a gear that protrudes from one side as the door closes. If the gear does not come out when the door is closed then it will not turn the cartridge rollers and would cause the knock. Also, if the gear does come out but does not link up to the cartridge fully it can cause the same kind of sound. You would also get a similar result if the gear's teeth are stripped out on the drive side of the gear. Many models do not have that type of drive gear. They may have a drive gear on the left side of the cartridge compartment. Look at that to see if it show wear and tear.
