The power on and off bottom in my e-machines t2220 tower broke..how can I fix it?

A) The professional method:Replace the Power On switch, that is located inside the plastic Power On Button assembly.B) Non-professional:Using an ATX power on switch, and externally.I'll try to keep it short, but it never seems to happen..........lol!The plastic front of your computer is the Front Panel. The Front Panel removes.Access to the Power On Button assembly, is achieved by removing the Front Panel, then the Center Bezel.(I double-space sentences in the hope, that it is easier for someone to read; using their phone)Front view of your eMachines T2220,http://www.amazon.com/eMachines-Desktop-Computer-T2200-Processor/dp/B00006SG3YView of the removable Center Bezel, (Which of course, has the Power On Button assembly in it),http://www.ebay.com/itm/2111-Emachines-EMA-CENTER-BEZEL-T2200-T2240-T2542-T4080-P4-2-4GHz-512MB-GRADE-A-/321046810215?pt=US_Laptop_Housings_Touchpads&hash=item4abfe18e67Viewing the right side of the Center Bezel image, note what looks like TABS; protruding from the right side. These Tabs are what hold the Center Bezel, to the plastic Front Panel. They are on both sides.Moving forward..........Looking at the front of the computer, the left Side Panel removes.Should be two Thumbscrews to loosen. They are loosened all the way, and should Not remove completely.(But if the little lock clip is missing, it/they may)The back edge of the left Side Panel, should also have a finger-pull formed in it.The Side Panel is pulled to the back of the computer. The Side Panel should have Tabs on the top edge, and bottom edge. These tabs also have a hooked end.Due to this, the Side Panel is pulled back until it stops, then moved very slightly forward, and brought straight out to remove.STOPNow follow Anti-Static Procedures;Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.Relieve your body of Static BEFORE reaching inside your computer.Computer on a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open;TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open, computer case. This action will relieve your body of Static.IF, you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return.Moving on.......I BELIEVE, that the Center Bezel can be removed, without having to remove the Front Panel.I however may be wrong. The tabs that lock the Center Bezel to the Front Panel, may not be able to be released; until the Front Panel itself is removed.(I know. It's beginning to look like fun(?), huh?)IF, the Center Bezel itself can be removed, then only the wires for the;1) Power On switch2) Power On LED light3) Harddrive activity LED light,,may need to be disconnected. However; if the Front Panel needs to be removed, it gets a little more complicated. The Front Panel also has two USB ports, in it; plus a Headphone jack, and Microphone jack.Doesn't take a rocket scientist to disconnect those wires from the motherboard, but does make it a little more complicated.So.........see if you can ease the Center Bezel out. Make take using a flat tipped tool to start. (I'm going to 'hate myself in the morning'.........Tool perhaps like a butterknife )Don't get Neanderthal on it, just see if you can ease the Center Bezel off, by working on one side.If it doesn't just pop off -> Stop.Remove the Front Panel. You may wish to make notes, and a drawing, BEFORE disconnecting the wires from the motherboard; as to where those wires go.However the motherboard is an ECS L7VMM, and here is how to access the motherboard manual,http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=61&MenuID=24&LanID=0Click on the Download tab.(Features / Specification / Download / Certification / FAQ / etc)Click on the blue Down Arrow, to the right of the - Select OS - box.Click on any Ol' Windows O/S that you want. You are just going after the manual. In the list click on -> + Manual(1)(OS, and O/S stands for Operating System)Also if you post back in a Comment, and need help in reconnecting those wires; I should be able to guide you step, by step.Front Panel, or Center Bezel off;The Power On Button assembly should have plastic tabs on it. They snap into slots in the Center Bezel.Due to the age, and constant heat, they may be BRITTLE.I would use a hair dryer set on low heat, and with constantly moving the hair dryer nozzle back and forth slowly; soften the plastic tabs. Then see if you can remove the Power On Button assembly. The Power On switch, should be a part of the plastic Power On Button assembly. At this point I use the hair dryer again, and soften it's plastic tabs enough; so I can ease the Power On switch out. This style of Power On switch is used for a LOT of computers, and it may be the same for yours,http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.htmlThe non-professional approach of course, is to connect an ATX power on switch like the example; and hang it out of the Power On Button's hole, after removing Power On Button assembly from Center Bezel. If you have never worked on a computer before, the above may seem daunting. (Also because I over detail, what could be more simply put)However it is my belief that conversing back, and forth in Comments; I should be able to help you overcome any problems you may have with this.Regards, joecoolvette

This tells you where the file will download to.When you see the file name DOUBLE-click on it, and Extract all files. It is a Zip file. Now DOUBLE-click on the red Adobe PDF icon, next to the extracted files.Need guidance with this post in a Comment.A) JP5 jumper is right below the Ram Memory slots.CPU Frequency Jumper. (Processor; change internal clock frequency - jumper)Vertical placement. 3-pin jumper. The TOP pin is number 1 pin. With the jumper on Pins 1 and 2, the frequency is 100MegaHertz.With the jumper on Pins 2 and 3, the frequency set is 133MHz.B) The small 4-pin connector above the CMOS battery is for an internal speaker. (For BIOS Beep Codes)The small 3-pin jumper that is Horizontally placed above it, is the JP1 jumper.Clear CMOS Jumper. The pin all the way to the Right, is the number 1 pin. With the jumper on Pins 1 and 2, the setting is Normal. With the jumper on Pins 2 and 3, you are trying to clear cmos settings. From manual;"To clear the CMOS memory, disconnect all the power cables from the motherboard, and then move the jumper cap onto the CLEAR setting for a few seconds."Ummm, NO.Unplug the computer from power. Put the jumper cap on pins 2 and 3 for 5 seconds. Remove from Pins 2 and 3, and put back on Pins 1 and 2.Plug the computer back into power.WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.Geez!I don't see any other jumpers. I had microsoft virtual earth on my recently old defunct pc.

Unless you have the actual CD and license that came with the computer (restore or program), you will not be able to retrieve the software. The software that was on your last pc was an OEM of Microsoft's Virtual Earth and based on the EULA (end user license agreement), it cannot be transfered to another computer.

You will need to buy another license.

Screen says reboot and select proper bootdevice

Guessing, but it sounds like your hard drive has been damaged. You may need a new drive, or at least repairs. If you have a "rescue disk", give that a try.

Recovery disk for Emachine T5642

In general, you have to order recovery disks from the manufacturer of the machine. In your case eMachines Store eRecovery is where you can order it, or you can initiate a discussion with tech support. T5026 bios download

Flashing the bios is a last-ditch move. What happened before that? Did it work before you flashed it? If the unit is interrupted during clash, or if it is the wrong bios, your goose could be cooked. Read this: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/flashed-wrong-bios.180492/ There may be something you can use, especially if you have a floppy drive (a real one, not a usb-one). You maybe can use flash drive in the usb port, but that's a long shot. Good luck with that. I'd be looking at a new motherboard. They can be had pretty cheaply.

Problem getting recovery disk

I understand that you want to reinstall the Operating System on the computer. Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer. To start the system recovery:
  1. Restart the computer
  2. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. When prompted with a boot screen, hit the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails during the recovery, recovery of the operating system will need to be from Recovery Media.
  1. Insert the disk labeled System CD into the computer's disk drive and restart the computer.
  2. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly.
  3. Select either CDROM or DVD as the boot device, this may vary depending on the system.
  4. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
  5. Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first Recovery CD.
  6. After the system recovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.
Refer the URL for more information and for the link to order the Recovery media if required.

System repeatedly reboots after cpu upgrade

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd floppy have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs

power and data to travel through every working device and to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

even something as small as a faulty power lead or fan lead can cause you problems

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

make sure ram modules and cmos batteries have dust free secure seatings and cmos battery has charge some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

you might not have enough computer ram

not having enough computer ram will run your computer over its limits putting to much strain on the CPU central processing unit and can cause memory dumps

you might have to many programs trying to or accessing the internet at the same time scroll to bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click select task manager applications you will see whats running if you see anything you dont need running select end now and you might uninstall that specific program if you or computer does not require it to run and some unnecessary programs that could be jamming up your computer also under processes see what is ticking over in the background again if you see something you dont need to be and users you will see who is using your computer you might need to add more computer ram if you're not sure if a module is right for your system use the Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules. first you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system you should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility of the ram before making any purchase

might be getting hot

check you CPU make sure its securely seated and has thermal grease

hope this helps
