How to access the recovery

If you cannot start your Windows, you can run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM.

For more information about how to create Startup disks for Windows XP (they are not included with Windows XP), click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hiya basically my notebook has

Hello,...Sorry to hear about your friend!

First, I want to ask...Is there an arrow next to the logon password?

You need too... Re-Start the Computer and Hold the Control Key down, while it is Re-booting! This will put you in a Safe Mode.

The First Step,.. I would do while in SAFE MODE is: At The START Button, Type in Device Manager and see what kind of Hardware and Programs are Installed on this computer? If you see any Yellow Symbols,..Right Click on each one and do an Up-Date on all the drivers.

Second...I would then Create a Complete Back-up disk...Do you have a USB Flash Drive (Cruzer)? If not you will need a Blank...CD, probably more than one? Cruzers are relatively in-expensive, under $10.00, they hold alot of information in a very small space.

After you create a Back-Up log,..still in Safe Mode...

Click on the START Button...go to Control Panel, Or ...Type in box at the Start...User Accounts..You can sign in as a GUEST, but..you will have to Enable Guest Accounts and if logged in as a Guest you will not be able to change any previous settings, but you can surf around offline and even use the web if you have an IP Server!

You can try to retreive the original username & password to reset it, or even remove it, or you can turn off user accounts & passwords ? But , I wouldn't try this untill you restart, with a Back-Up Disk, that has all the Original System Information already stored in memory! And upon Re-Starting in Normal Mode, insert the the USB Flash Drive or Back-up disk...go to Computer...Open the Drive with Disk Installed, go to (User Accounts) again, and see if you can find password?

Try these steps, and let me know what you find? There is something on there if you have a passowrd logon! Let me know if you need help?

Kind Regards!

Martie

Brighten display screen

Normally, on the keyboard of your netbook, there is a "Fn" key next to the bottom left "Ctrl" key.
after you finish booting up and have the screen veiw, press and hold the "Fn" key, then at the top there are a row of "F' keys, usually the F6 key is the key you would press to increase the brightness of your display. Each time you press the key the brightness should increase, if you press it pass the maximum brightness it will go back to a low brightness and then increase in brightness each time you press the "F6" key.

Remember, you have to hold down the "Fn" key as you press and release the "F6" key.

No sound

1.Log in to an administrator account. Navigate to the "Start" menu and select "Set Program Access and Defaults." Next, click on the "Change or Remove Programs" button.
2.Scroll down and locate "IDT HD audio" from the list and uninstall it by clicking "Uninstall" and following the onscreen instructions until the removal is complete. Your shoddy Windows XP version of the audio software has now been removed.
3.Navigate to the IDT audio driver link (ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40501-41000/sp40714.exe). When prompted, save the file to a convenient location.
4.Install the software by double-clicking the sp40714.exe file that you just downloaded. The notebook will restart, so save any open documents ahead of time.
5.After your mini laptop has rebooted, connect external speakers to the audio-out jack of the HP mini notebook and verify that the computer's audio quality has improved.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

I want to system restore

Hi andygrew90...

To do a complete system restore, you will need to format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system with the drivers.
To do that you will:
1...Double left click on "My Computer"
2...When the pop open window opens, Go to your main drive normally this is "C" drive and double left click on it.
3...When the window opens you will click on "Format"
After you format your hard drive then you will reinstall the operating system and driver with the discs that you made when you first got your netbook (unless your lucky and got the disc's with the computer)
This will bring your computer back to the original condition when it was new.

Blue screen on start up :( samsung netbook nc10

Performing a System Restore will solve your issue. And you need not worry about losing data. System Restore will not remove or modify any of your data except the recently installed programs and the exe files. This is to help remove virus or a problem that occured after installing a new software or driver.

I have forgotten the pairing

Usually default pairing code is 0000 but most times the code is whatever you set it up as. if you cant remember the code and the unit are requesting for a code simply delete the previous pairing and do a new pairing this should solve the problem instead of trying to remember a code which could be any 4 digits in the world.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

I have forgotten my bios password

You need to open up the back panel of the computer that leads to the RAM. Remove the RAM and you will find a set of pins labeled RTC reset. Short the RTC reset pins for like 2-3 seconds, re-install the ram and then boot the system. To short the pins, use a flat head screwdriver or a paperclip to touch the pins together.

BLACK SCREEN -SMALL WHITE LINE

Sounds like the screen itself is broken. No way to know unless you take it to a repair shop. But try this, plug the LP into another monitor and see if it opens, if it dose then your screen in your LP is broken. Use the Blue plug in, on the LP and just open it. If you can't do this then yes you do have problem. Take to repair shop.

No operating system found on

If it is brand new contact the company and question it. If it is not new, then your hard drive has some issues. It is either dead or something (virus possible) destroyed your boot sector. Have someone check it out for ya.

Samsung netbbook DC10 won't show desktop icons,

You should right click on an open area (which all should be open), from there a menu will pop up, look for view, move your mouse over the word view and from there you should see something that say "Hide desktop icons", make sure this is unchecked.
