Freezer works but the fridge does not

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

I have Haier refrigerator moderl number

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

Check the coils on the rear of the refrigerator and make sure they are clean and dust free. Also check the back wall or floor of the freezer section for frost. Check the evaporator fan to see if it is running. Check the condenser coils under the unit for blockage from dust. Check the condenser fan under the unit to see if it is running. If you have frost in the freezer there is a problem with the defrost system and the freezer will start to warm eventually as well as the fresh food section. If that is the problem you can check the defrost terminator, defrost heater/s, and the defrost timer or adaptive defrost control If used on your unit or the main control board if so equipped. Also check the freezer to ensure it isn't over loaded with food stuff, reason being air must flow freely threw out the entire refrigerator in order for the thermostat to work correctly.

Defrost the freezer by disconnecting the power to the refrigerator and letting it sit for at least 24 hours with both the doors open to allow the frost to melt completely but it will build up again in 1-2 weeks and start the warming up again.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

Door seal comes loose, shut

Most likely the seal is worn, however have you wiped all the build up of any mold and debris from the seal and frige frame that seal closes to?
Sometimes just a good cleaning with hot water and mild (not harsh sprays) soap like dish soap can bring the cling back.
Otherwise its replace the seal.
If your broke you can latch the door shut by making a Velcro handle on the outside.

The freezer frosts and ices up

Hello and Welcome to Fixya,

This is one of the most common problems in most of the refrigeration appliances. What’s going on here is that the condensate drain hole in the freezer gets plugged with ice. Once this happens, all the frost melted off the evaporator during subsequent defrost cycles can no longer drain and so spreads out on the freezer and dribbles down and also chokes other components. Here are the instructions that you need to follow inorder to get rid of the problem:

  • Unplug the refrigerator and pull everything outta the freezer, and I mean everything.
  • Remove the bottom panel inside the freezer so you can see the condensate trough in the back of the freezer.
  • Notice that the condensate trough is filled with ice– all that has to be cleared out.
  • Take it easy back there, delicate parts are exposed– don’t start hacking at it with an ice pick because there are chances that you’ll just end up puncturing the evaporator and you’ll turn a simple, inexpensive repair into a majorly expensive one.
  • Use hot water to drain all the frosted ice that is visible.
  • Re-place all the units removed during the process.
  • Once all the ice is cleared away and the condensate drain opening is cleared, you are done.

Best of Luck,

Please do rate my solution, If found helpful.

Regards.

When it is off, gently shake the frig to see if the rattle is something in the frig hitting togrther. If that is not it it could be the compressor hitting the case inside due to a broken spring on the motor. The only repair for this is replace the compressor. In which case you let it run like that till it quits completely. That can be a very long time. Eric

Freezer working fine but fridge wont go cold!

Hi

Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils or a condenser that is clogged with dust, lint, and dirt.

Evaporator coils Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer. Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.

The refrigerator is supposed to self-defrost approximately four times in every 24 hour period. If one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails, the refrigerator continues to try to cool. Eventually, though, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There may still be a small amount of cooling because the coils are icy, but with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited.

Here's an inexpensive, though inconvenient, way to determine if the problem is with the self-defrosting system. Remove all of the perishable food from the refrigerator and freezer, turn the thermostat in the refrigerator to Off, and leave the doors open for 24 to 48 hours. (Be sure to have several towels ready in case the melting frost and ice causes the drip pan to overflow). This allows the refrigerator to defrost "manually." When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the refrigerator then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of three components in the self-defrosting system:

  • The defrost timer

  • The defrost thermostat (also called the bi-metal switch)

  • The defrost heater

If it still does not cool properly, there may be a problem with the refrigerant level or the compressor. You may need to consult with a qualified appliance repair technician to further diagnose the problem

Condenser Self-defrosting refrigerators all have a set of coils and a cooling fan, usually under the refrigerator, that need to be cleaned regularly. If these coils get coated with dust, dirt or lint, the refrigerator may not cool properly. The coils may appear to be a thin, black, wide radiator-like device behind the lower kick-panel. To clean them, disconnect the refrigerator from the power source, use a refrigerator condenser brush (see the Appliance Accessories section) and your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils of any lint, pet hair, etc. You may not be able to get to all of the condenser from the front, it may be necessary to clean the remainder of the condenser from the rear of the refrigerator.

Please revert for further assistance and Do rate the solution as "FixYa" if found useful.

Thanks
Rylee

Fridge won't quit running and get cold

2 common problems that unit has. 1 is the cold controls go bad and will cause the unit to either run or not run. 2 the freezer drain gets blocked up very easy and when the freezer defrost the water has noplace to go but the freezer bottom and could block the air passages so the cold air will not satisfy the control. so check the freezer bottom by removing the plastic peice on the bottom there are 3 plastic plugs in the front that secure it and some phillips screw in the middle. you can just lift it to check for ice. if there is none replace the cold control. good luck
