Its most likely the float, the fact that turning the fuel shutoff on full makes it die tells me its flooding out, and the fuel shutoff partially turned off is just regulating the fuel flow in place of the float. Time to take apart the carb and give it a good clean, if its running well otherwise with the shutoff partially off then its most likely just a sticking or bad float or float valve. You might be able to get away with taking just the bowl off the carb, pulling the float off by removing its pivot pin and cleaning the needle valve and use a q-tip soaked in some carb cleaner and clean up in where the needle valve goes, because it could be gunk built up on the end of the needle valve or up in the needle valve seat causing fuel to keep flowing past it. Also while your cleaning it put the float in a small container of gas for a while and make sure it doesnt sink! If it does it has a hole, but you should also notice the float has fuel in it when you shake it. Most newer engines now have plastic floats, and they don't usually spring a leak like the older brass/copper ones, but its still worth checking. Long story short, yes, you most likely have a float/needle valve issue.

Check the oil. Some engines will shut down if the oil is low. Otherwise you probably have a dirty fuel filter and the carburetor fills up with gas long enough to start but isn't getting enough gas to keep it full.

Try the easy thing first, check connections and lube switch with mfg suggested lubricant. Sounds like a corrosion problem to me.

Have you checked the fuse? Mine keeps blowing the fuse (located on the back of the control panel) with each startup and shutdown or use of idle control.

I have a 15000 ultrasource generator the start and stop switch was taken out i need to put it back The problem is i dont know which wire goes where and when i look at the wire diagram the numbers are different the numbers on my unit are 15, 11, 133, 14, 12, The 15 and 11 are the same wires the start and stop switch has 6 males on the back to plug the wires into Does anyone know which wire goes where???

Because it is bad fuel has prevented the float from operating to shut down fuel and unit is running rich that's why it wont power up right don't put fuel cleaner in it now it will only get worse carburetor needs to be taken off and cleaned. get the manual for unit at dealer. you can do it yourself if you are careful ( fuel now days needs a stabilizer in it Amzoil makes the best. It's called PI improver .when you lay up a machine for the season you need to have this in the fuel ) ethanol messed up shelf life of gasoline try 14 days sitting and you have a problem.
