Remove the large spool bolt on the bottom. Remove the spool. Inside you will find a friction nut. Carefully pry it up around each side with a small flat screwdriver. If it gets damaged then it will need to be replaced (hardware stores will have this). Once it's off, you should be able to slide the remainder of the plastic spool off.
I've owned this great little Black and Decker
never charge batteries that long usually only 3to5 hours if ni-cd . most batteries last 3 or 4 years . totally discharge pack and try to charge again . if nothing buy new battery pack
How long to charge battery?
bateries have their own specifications. You can read it on the label. But,most of all it must be charge from 12-15 hrs. on its very first charging ( for a new battery) and later on or for the second time and so on, you may charge it 2 to 4 hrs.,sometimes 8 hrs..Leting you know,a battery can be charge even a short span of time, for example is 30 minutes only.In that 30 minutes try to measure its stored volt using a volt meter or a multi-tester,and the result is laready 12 volts (if your batery is 12 volts.)do you believe that? YES.! because a battery is so easy to store power. But,the problem is that its so easy to drain its stored power. You know why?because the current or amper of the baterry is still weak that the given specification.,.So,for short explanation, the longer time you charge your batery equals the longer time to drain the power. For example: when you charge the batery within 4 hours, thus the batery will be drained after 4 hours.

I have a BDS 300 sensor and have lost instructions
I just bought one too and instructions need deciphering. Select wood or metal with selector switch. Put unit flat against wall. Press and hold on/off button on left. (It looks like it must be kept pressed in at all times to be 'on' and when released it's 'off). The unit with calibrate and give a beep back and lower red LED will stay on. Move unit slowly left/right and more red LEDs light up until green is on. This is 1st edge. Mark it with pencil. Move unit along until Green is off and down to single LED. Then move it back in opp. direction until Green is on again. This is 2nd edge. Attached is a scan of page from Instruction Manual. Quality is lowish as attachment limit here is 150kb.
