We have a 1998 yamaha v4 2 strock 115 engine. we can not get the motor to go down. even if we try to drop it manually
lock lever not down ? does it move up and down at all , the tilt tube could be siezed ,both trim solinoides working ? try standing on the engine gearbox as you trim down or manually release ! if then goes down try injecting the grease nipples with petrol via a grease gun that uses tubes like tooth paste and this will soak the corrosion ! then grease and see if free and if not enough then lift the engine off and remove the tilt tube and clean the sleeves and grease and refit !
1985 40hp evinrude only runs at half speed
check the carb/s opening full throttle when you throttle up to max on the tiller or remotes pending what your using ! is carb clean and ignition set correct ? compressions good etc ? sparks on all cylinders ? multi carbs balanced ?

is it one coil for each cyl or a double ht ? if single coils swop over and see if problem moves ! if double ht then swop leads over if you unbolt the coil and fit an earth wire to the coil body and try in a dustbin of water ! sometimes the ht are too short to swop ! check connections and earths !

check the kill switch is ok ! its only a make or break switch so disconnect the wires or connect them together to try ! check the main harness socket on the engine is clean on the pins etc also !
Ihave a 1980 25 hp evinrude an i dont know if it
run it in a dustbin of water and have the cavitation plate thats above the prop under water by at least 12inch , start engine and there is a hole at rear just below the engine cowl that chuffs water and exhaust out plus you should have a tail of water thats on the bottom pan of the engine ! with the top cover off there is a large plate on one side and thats the exhaust cooling plate and you should be able to touch it it the engine is cooling !
