I would first try doing a hard reset. Hold the home and power button down simultaneously until the iPad completely turns off and the Apple logo appears. You can ignore the slide to turn off button when it appears.
If that doesn't solve the issue I would make an appointment with your local Apple Store and have the device checked out by an Apple Genius.

The button next to the .?123 in the right corner (see image attached) that looks like an icon of the keyboard itself is actually exactly for this issue. Press and hold this button and two options appear- undock and split. Undock will pull the keyboard halfway up the screen for this exact purpose, split will cut the keyboard in half like an ergonomic keyboard. For people who text frequently and find themselves typing with their ipad in their hands; this is a friendly option! Naturally thumb texters have split the qwerty keyboard mentally and will find this a very convenient option when needing to type with only their thumbs. Your ipad holds many tricks and bad a** features you may not realize even after years of ownership. I highly recommend "tips and tricks" guides in the App Store to find all the fun included features!!!

A red exclamation point means there was a problem with sending your email. You can click on the mark to see further information about the problem. Most likely, you will have to check you email settings and correct the problem. You can, alternately, delete that account and create a totally new version of that account. The most likely error is entering the password incorrectly. Depending on who your email provider is, you may, instead, have incorrect outgoing email information. You will need to factory reset it. You will lose all data and pictures, but it is probably the only way to access it. I do not think Apple will help you if you do not know your ID and Password. If you knew at least your Apple ID they might would help you out with password.
