Sometimes in the shop, we will Ahem... break, smash, the "Old" bit to get the "New" bit installed, sometimes there is no other way, however. But of course if you can take it down completely, that is best. Anyway have alok at the diagram, that should give you a heads up.

Here's a few pointers:
1. Make sure that you're using an appropriate paper filter that fits your maker.
2. If you're grinding your own coffee beans, don't grind them too fine.
3. Try a smaller amount of coffee. You may be surprised that if you get it balanced, it may make stronger coffee with less grounds.
4.Cleaning can be easier if you use a small amount of automatic dishwasher powder in hot water and a veggie brush... it'll cut the coffee pretty well.
on a side note, check out a "french press" coffee pot... I just got one recently and they're incredible. If you like full bodied coffee without the bitterness... this is a really great way to make coffee. hope all these suggestions help you out today...

Manuals and guides may be located online at KITCHENAID.COM.

In the upper-right hand corner of the site, click on CUSTOMER CARE and then click on LOCATE MANUALS AND GUIDES.

It will then ask you for your model number.

For a coffee maker, the model number is located on a white sticker underneath the machine.

On the website, type in your model number exactly as it appears on this sticker and click GO.

This will then bring up the literature listing for your particular unit. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the files.

Also, Kitchenaid Customer Service will send you a physical copy of an instruction manual at no charge if you choose to call them. Their toll-free telephone number is:

An ERR 2 may be cleared by a simple reset of the coffee maker. This means unplugging the unit and plugging it back in. When powered back on, select a brew function to see if the error reappears.

If it does, ERR 2 indicates an internal error with the computer of the warming plate. This may be covered under Kitchenaid's 1 Year Hassle Free Warranty. I would advise you to call Kitchenaid Customer Service to see what options are available to you. Repair is not recommended, as it is not cost effective for the company or the consumer.

Their toll-free telephone number is 1-800-541-6390.

the way it works... a heater at the bottom heats the water causing it to be pushed up a tube and out over the coffee.
If the drip is very hot water, the heater is working.
What else can be wrong???
a plugged tube
If it does not leak when off, then you have a hole in that tube
