Outside surfaces of freezer very hot to touch
it should be warm to the touch but not so hot you cant. and also depending on how long the freezer is running and how warm it is where the freezer is will effect how hot the outside is. the reason the outside of the freezer is hot is because thats how the freezer releses its heat from the refrigerant. the longer it runs or the harder it has to work the more heat it has to hive off. so unless the freezer is not cooling there is nothing to worry about.
The freezer is not cooling
If you are getting some cooling the 2 most common suspects are the door and refrigerant leak.
Check to make sure the door/lid is closing all the way and the seal is good. You can put a piece of paper or dollar bill between the seal and cabinet there should be some resistance to pulling the paper out all around the seal.
If the door is not the issue and this is not a frost free unit ( I would need the complete model number from the product to be sure) then the next most likely culprit is that the refrigerant has leaked from the system or the compressor has become inefficient and can no longer circulate the refrigerant. A new compressor replacement would run around $400.00
New fridge freezer isgetting very hot on both
This heat is normal. The refrigerator you have in your kitchen will have the condenser coils which get very hot on the bottom or back of the frig. A deep freeze has the condenser coils inside the walls of the freezer. Hot temps are normal when it is running.
Try to leave an inch or so of space around it for air flow and that will help.
Compressor click
Possibly. However it sounds like the compressor is running hot which could be the relay assembly sticking with the start windings in the circuit.
Eric
When plugged, it shorts the surge protector and outlets.
I noticed that my refrigerator, kenmore
freezer, and stove were all not on. This has not ever been a problem before, so I unplugged the surge protector and reset the outlet. I then plugged the
refrigerator and the kenmore freezer to the surge protector and I noticed when I plugged the kenmore freezer it just shorted the surge protector. I then just plugged in the refrigerator and oven to the surge protector with no problems. I tried to plug kenmore freezer to other outlet and same result "a short
I opened my chest freezer and found everything was
Look for a thermostat near the compressor compartment, I first try setting the thermostat up and then down a few times, it may just be stuck and full of dust or dirt. Or just replace it. Very simple, only two or three wires and route the sensor into a sleave.
No owners manual
I solved the problem by avoiding this stupid website that only screws you around trying to sell you something and go somewhere else. If your stupid response program would have noticed i asked a question about a different freezer you ****.

Average freezers last for several years, usually 10 or more. The compressor should not run all of the time, maybe less than 10 to 20 percent of the time if it is working properly. Not sure what you mean by the bipass, some freezer have a manual defrost, and in this mode it will not cool. Insure the location where you have the freezer allows for ample air circulation, sometimes folks put them in little spaces that prevent air circulation to the condensing/compressor unit and they overheat and do not work well and fail very quickly.
Temp alarm going off and things are starting to thaw...
Check to see that the temp control is working (turning on the compressor). You also can have a bad start device on the compressor so it's not turning on reliably. Worst case is there is a leak and the refrigerant has leaked out and no longer cooling. If you can hear/feel the compressor running (should be warm/hot to touch) and you have no cooling then you have that sealed system problem (no refrigerant gas left)
15 cu. ft. chest freezer
Remove the back panel, if there is one, find the compressor. Put your hand on it. If its very hot, you have a problem. You should feel a slight vibration if good and running. If The overload is shutting off keep your hand there and wait a few minutes, see if there is a clicking noise coming from the compressor. This is just a start, but you said it has been off for a while so my first suspect is a compressor. Do these things and let me know for a follow up.
External Surfaces of Fridge/Freezer are hot
That is normal, refrigerators work by removing the heat from the
storage area, thus making it cold. This heat has to go somewhere. Most
of it is blown out the back but some escapes through the sides of the
fridge.
Some food is thawing in my chest freezer
these frigidaire made freezers are notorious for having restrictions in the sealed systems that will cause exactly what your describing.
what happens is oil moves around in the freon system and pools up in the capillary tubes and the freon is not able to flow properly. if the unit is under 5 yrs old then should be inwarranty to sears. if its over 5 then probably cheaper to purchase a new one..
