Hp pavilion dv5, flickering screen problem mostly
First restart the computer and tap f10 key on keyboard to enter bios, and check wethere the screen flickers or not you can even try to tilt the screen and check as the drivers doesnt works in bios screen ... if the screen flickers then it is a hardware issue .. if it doesnt then log on to safe mode with networking by pressing f8 as the notebook restarts and then go to device manager by typeing device at the start search and the uninstall the video driver and then reinstall it from hp.com support and drivers ..issue will be resolved if not then do a bios update from hp.com, support and drivers.

Hi,
I think the problem with your laptop is that the operating system on your laptop is corupt, that is why the windows is not responding.
I will advice you reinstall the operating system on your laptop, if the operating system can be reinstall, the windows should work fine and respond.
Take care.
Dv5-1000us wont turn on
First,
we need to make sure that the AC adapter & the laptop's power
receptacle are not the cause of the problem. In order to do this, please
refer to the following article for detailed diagnosis:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r6395191-troubleshooting_laptop_power_failures_ac
Next,
after we confirm that both the AC adapter & the laptop's power
receptacle are good, we will have to disassemble the laptop, one part at
a time, and after we remove each part, test to see if the laptop will
start or not. We should start by removing the hard drive, the CD/DVD
drive, the WiFi adapter, the modem, ... etc. It is also helpful to swap
the RAM modules with good ones to test, or if you have 2 RAM modules,
test the laptop with each of them one at a time.
If none of these works, your laptop's motherboard is defective & will need to be replaced.

After pluging in no power or power light
All of you have the same problem I have--the crazy thing won't boot up--blue lights but a dead, black screen. I've also had problems with the laptop becoming really hot. I've "resolved" these two issues by 1) setting the computer to never turn off. This works great until an auto-update of some program or other is necessary, usually in the middle of the night, and then a restart of the computer is necessary for the laptop to acknowledge the update. 2) When you turn on the laptop and all you get is blue lights on the keyboard, try this: Hold the power button on until the laptop turns off. Count to twenty and then holding the base of the laptop with both hands, turn it on its left side as you're holding it in the air, with the keyboard vertical instead of horizontal. While holding it in this position, push the power button. 99% of the time this will restart this crazy computer. I wonder if it's some kind of problem with the motherboard, but I am afraid to tinker with it. 3) Get yourself a laptop fan to help draw off the excessive heat so you don't cook your laptop. These HP model is prone to overheating and other issues, so we all have to band together to help one another overcome all its idiosyncracies. While all this is not a solution, it'll at least help you limp along until you can come up with a better answer. What have you got to lose at this point?
Removing virtual drive
It depends what program you used to add it in the first place. Open the software and look for settings, or just uninstall it.
