They're talking about a special tool with two little pins on it for turning the battery cover. It's the item on the far right of the 3rd page of the manual. I imagine a bent paper clip might also work in its place.

On most electronic speedos, holding one or both the buttons (depending on model and type) should clear the reading. Holding it for too long might reset the initial setup so take care.

All you need to do is measure the diameter and do the math or for precision, roll-out one revolution on the ground and measure it in millimeters and divide by 1.61 (or multiply times .621).

(Consult chart or figure yourself by measuring from the top of the tire to the ground in inches.) Measurement X 25.4 x 3.14 / 1.61 = ws ( / is divided by)
