Kenmore vacuum cleaner model no. 116. 5861279 belt replace

Do you need the belt or the directions for changing the belt? Sears Parts Direct has the manual for the 116.58612790 here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Vacuum-Parts/user-manuals/manual-downloads/Model-11658612790/0582/0640500?modelNumber=11658612790&diagramPageId=&documentId= . The direct link to the manual is http://c.searspartsdirect.com/mmh/pd_download/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0802691.pdf . See pages 14-15 of the manual. To replace the belt, you need to remove the light cover and then the light bulb. Press in the sides of the cover and lift to remove it. the bulb needs to be pushed in and then turned couter-clockwise. Remove the cover screws. Then flip over the Power Mate and use the flat blade screwdriver to release both tabs. Turn the Power Mate back to right side up and press on the handle quick release pedal and lower the swivel. Tilt the cover forward until it snaps free. Carefully, use your screwdriver to pop the brush supports free on both sides to remove the brush. Slide off the old belt. (If needed, slide off the brush supports and washers. Clean the brush before reassembling the unit. Then replace the brush supports and washers.) Push the belt on motor drive and then onto the brush sprocket. Push the brush supports back into place on the base. (Make sure that this isn't assembled upside down.) Then line up the front of the cover with the base and tilt the cover back into place. Press firmly until you hear both sides click into place. Replace the cover screws, light bulb and bulb cover. The belt is available here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/Kenmore-Vacuum-Parts/742024/0020/116/Model-11658612790/0582/0640500.html . This is part number 5285; it's the direct replacement for the original 742024 belt. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Replacement cost for comparative model depends on how old the model was. A newer model may not be near the same as an older model.

I have a kenmore model 116.25512506. The roller is spinning but no suction from the head. The attachments have suction but not the head. How do I remove bottom cover to check for blockage?

Is the suction control plastic ring shut?. If it's wide open you get almost no suction. See picture. 25823072-bhx41vpbxgcw2fhkwng0wody-1-0.jpg If that is closed check the long metal wand. Disconnect from the beater bar head and check the whole length of the wand and look into the beater bar head opening for something plugging it.

How to change height adjustment on kenmore canister power-mate?

My powermate has a little pedal on the bag of the beaterbar housing that you press all the way down with your foot and then release. Each time you press down it changes the height from 'xlo' to 'lo' to 'med' to 'high' and then it starts over again. See the attached picture 26138980-bhx41vpbxgcw2fhkwng0wody-4-0.jpg

Beater bar turning on and off. Why doesn't the vacuum?

Try wiggling the wire and where the hose swivels to attempt to determine where it may be shorting out. It could be the wire or the plugs where the wires connect if your model has them. Inspect these areas closely to find your short.

The brush on my Pet Power Mate attachment for my Kenmore isn't spinning. can it be fixed?

In my case the brush was seized on the axle. A wad of pet hair had wrapped one end and melted the plastic roller a little, binding it to the axle. Take the powerhead apart; Pull the white ends off the axle; Push the axle out; ream out the holes in the roller ends with the proper sized drill (#12 or 3/16", I think...close is good enough); Clean any debris out of the roller and steel wool the axle if necessary; Light oil lube job; and reassemble.
