I was running a virus check, asked what to do, I

soks3d,
With the system shut down, unplug the power cable from the power supply. Open you're case and pull the memory from the system wait a minute than reseat the memory. Re-connect the power cable to the power supply. Try booting the system and enter the bios menu. (Pulling the memory will clear any memory resident virus). This has nothing to do with the alarm buzzer sound you heard. Typically the alarm sound is generated by the CPU. It's an audible warning that the CPU is over-heating. The CPU will shut down you're system so as not to damage the motherboard and CPU. (Suggest you check the CPU fan for dust build-up. Use canned air to help remove any build-up. You can also use a clean paint brush to help remove any dust from under each CPU fan blade.
It's also possible that the CPU fan is running far too slow and may need to be replaced.
See page 3-23 in you're user manual.
3-8. PC Health Status.

Open the link provided below for a new heat-sink and fan assembly for a socket 462;
http://www.directron.com/a4004d.html
If the CPU fan and heat-sink assembly seems clean it is also possible that the thermal grease / thermal tape between the heat-sink and CPU is too old and needs to be replaced. (Save this check for last).
Below is the link for you're motherboard;

I need to replace my Abit KV7-V motherboard what

If your going to replace or upgrade your motherboard, consider this following things:

1. Central Processing Unit(CPU) - Make sure that it can be use to the new motherboard or the motherboard supports your old cpu. If it is an Intel processor, get a motherboard that supports Intel processor or if AMD then get a motherboard that support AMD processors.

2. Memory Card - Make sure that it can also be usable to the new motherboard. If it is DDR then get a motherboard that supports DDR Memory Module or if it is DDR II then get a motheboard that supports it.

3. Video Card(if you have it aside from the onboard video device) - Make sure if you have a AGP Video card or PCI E video card it can be usable to the new motherboard.

Get a new motherboard that support all the stated hardware above.

Hope this could be valuable information for you..:-) Thanks..

Abit kv7 hangs at memory speed

Go into the bios and use the "set bios to default" option
There is another that is used for more speed orientated setting but at this point fo not use it.

Also check the memory settings them selves and set them for auto where possible

If you mean that it hangs when counting the memory then try the ESC key as it is booting to get past the memory check and then use DEL to get into bios

KV7-V power supply

follow the power cable from the PSU to the motherboard and see if the 21 connection has melted to the motherboard. You are better getting a 500W silent type, but it depends on the peripherals you have installed, try www.ebuyer.com for various makes.

Loading xp home edition

I can try and suggest you check the cables from you CD-ROM, any sort of damage the CD might have. Or then again, if your Hard Drive is SATA connected, then you'll need to load the SATA controler (F6 on the windows instalation) And, in last case, either upgrade your bios or try a different CD-ROM drive unit. But I would defenatly put my money on the cables.
