Moen & One Handle Tub & Shower Faucet - Page 8 Questions & Answers
Water temp. regulate
Moen faucets have only one moving part. The stem slides up and down to open and close the faucet and rotates to regulate the flow of hot and cold water. Any leaking requires replacement of the cartridge.
First, turn off the water. To remove the cartridge, you'll need to remove the handle. This project can be like working a puzzle. If you have the manufacturer's instruction sheet for the faucet, you're ahead of the game. Without it, look for a retainer clip at the rear of the faucet just below the handle. Or, you may have to remove a set screw or snap-in "hot-cold" button and a handle pin or screw. On some faucets the swing spout must come off first. The retainer clip may be hiding beneath the handle inside a lift-out tube. Some cartridge faucets use two retainer clips–one by the handle and another by the cartridge. Retainer clips can be pried out with a screwdriver.
Once the retainer clip is removed, the cartridge simply pulls out. Use pliers, as shown in Fig. 6. Install the new cartridge by pushing it into place with the flat arrow, or other mark upward. If you use a lubricant on the cartridge, make sure it's silicone grease.
Check and clean the cartridge inlet ports. Before you button up the faucet turn the water back on for a minute to flush out the supplies. I had to look for this answer, hopefully this will work for you.
My shower valve is approx 20 years old but it is
First, remove the shower head and test the valve. If you have plenty of
water at the shower with the head removed, then the problem is a clogged
shower head. Clean it or replace it.
What the hell...just replace it. You deserve it. Go buy one of those
cool shower massage heads to replace it.
If you discover you have poor flow at the head with the shower head
removed, then you have a blockage in your valve.
So you buy a 1/2 (female pipe thread) x Hose Thread adapter. Put that on
the arm for your shower head. Turn off the water to the house. Borrow a
neighbors hose and run it through a window and connect it to the shower
head (hose thread adapter). Now take the hose off your washer box and
drop the hose into the drain hole. Now turn on the water.
The water from your neighbor will allow you to backflush that valve. The
debris will backflush and wash out through your laundry hose on down
the drain.
If that doesn't work, then yes, you probably need to replace the entire
valve.
(I'm assuming your already taken the cartridge apart and cleaned it)

Is your tub spout still running alot of water through it when you use
the shower?
If so replace spout, if three valve, replace center diverter. If that is
all ok,
Then yes take off shower head and see if you have the pressure, if so
install new
shower head and or clean. If not head, then screw on .5 x hose adpt. to
the shower
arm, you will have to have one washer hose to connect to your outside
faucet then to
your garden hose which will connect to the shower arm. Leave faucet hot
and cold water off, turn on outside faucet all the way, this will let
the water go through the valve
and out the spout. If this does not work replace faucet.
Have the moen 82300 2300 series positemp tub and
Temperature regulating faucet, aka anti-scald, are fast becomring a requirement under local building codes making it, technically speaking, a building code violation to alter the faucets function (assuming someone reported it the loccal buildings dept. That said the function of the anti-scald faucet cannot be altered. You should contact whomever installed the faucet to come back and adjust it so the temperature is more suited to your needs.

No Hot water
Now there could be many reasons why this is happening. 1 the diverter may be assembled incorrectly. 2 the diverter/cartridge may be defective. 3 the plumber may have used to much solder, filling the pipe thus blocking the flow. 4 There is a shut off valve somewhere that's closed.
Do you have a home warranty? If so I would suggest calling the builder and inform them of the problem. Any respectable builder gives a warranty, I believe in most states its mandatory. This should be covered. Just a heads up, this could involve some holes being opened in the walls, ceilings, and floors in more than one place.
Leaks again
This is almost always caused by debris in the plumbing from the pipes or the water heater.
Sometimes it is caused by a defective OEM cartridge. Always buy genuine Moen parts.
Remove and inspect the cartridge. While it is out, briefly turn the water to the valve back on to insure the valve is free of particles and then reinstall. If the drip persists you will need to replace the cartridge again. Always flush the valve before installing new parts.
We have two showers one works perfect the other
Sounds like the anti-scald pressure balancing piece is stuck. This happens if the shower isn't used regularly. A varnish from minerals in the water causes it to stick. You can replace the cartridge or try cleaning this one by soaking it in white vinegar. When the cartridge is clean you should hear it rattle when you shake it. To prevent it from happening again be sure to run the hot and cold water at least once a week. BTW, if you are the original owner of the faucet Moen will send you a new cartridge free.
When you turn the handle over to the hot side the
Your control cartridge needs to be replaced. If the water is turned on by pulling on the knob you need Moen service part #1225B. If the water is turned on simply by turning the knob counterclockwise you need serviic part #1222. Try to turn the water on briefly after either cartridge is out to flush any debris that might be still in the body of the valve. Get the cartridge beforehand. the come with a handy removal tool.
Replace old cartridge
They actualy make a tool to help remove the cartridge as they can be stubborn. If you have allready removed the clip, then you may want to use a crescent wrench and adjust it so it lines up with the ears on the cartridge, then begin rotating the cartridge to loosen it up. Then you can try to pull it out again. Sometimes if you can turn it while pulling will help. I hope this helps. If so please vote.
& One Handle Tub & Shower Faucet : having a hard time removing sleeve so that i can a...
If it's the one I'm thinking, you unscrew that chrome or whatever sleeve,(counterclockwise), then remove "U" shaped retainer (from top of cartridge, pointing downward) that holds cartridge in, then use removal tool (usually nylon) to turn cartridge quarter turn, which causes it to ride on shoulder and it pulls/pushes itself out at same time, then with a good pair of pliers, or channel locks, pull straight out from there. Make sure you pay attention to markings on cartridge so that new, or it goes back in same way. Real easy to be 180 degrees out, and everything works backwards.
I have a moen 1 knob push-pull faucet for my
The old MOEN single handle faucets like youve described usualy took a 1200 or 1225 cartridge. Both are available at most of your big home improvement stores. The answer to your question is yes MOEN parts are still avail. Hope this helps. If this advise is helpful, please give me a vote.
My shower control seems to have difficulty
Possibly, but you can remove handle and it has a dial that will let you adjust hot and cold ratio. Do to antiscald this is a safety feature.
If if has a dial to adjust you can remove it and just move it an 1/8 to 1/4 turn and put back in and check water. just remember where it was before you move it.
I installed a Moen Adler faucet. It will not shut
You may just have a piece of sediment lodged in the cartridge from when the water was shut off during installation. Carefully remove the cartridge and turn the water on to flush out any obstructions. re install the cartridge and test.
How to change from a 2 handle plumbed in shower to
Moen makes a cover plate to fit over the 2 handle holes. I don't know the number off the top of my head but I have used alot of them. It alows you to cut a large enough hole to gain access to the old valve and replace it with a new single handle.
