You should be able to replace just the flapper.

This could be one of two things. Take the lid off the tank and add a few drops of food coloring and let it set, if the color shows up in the bowl you have what is called a silent leak. aka your flap is bad and only replace it with the exact factory flapper that your toilet came with. yes there are different ones and you will probably have more problems using after market parts.MAKE SURE THAT THE SEAT IS CLEAN AND FREE OF CALCIUM OR NICKS. The other problem although not as common check that the black inlet water tube is above the water line and that the water stops filling apx 1": below top of the white tube that fills the bowl.

The controler may be worn or the o-ring gave out. Hope this helps.

take off top cover, and check flapper valve for proper seating when flushing.. could be that it is dirty (where it makes contact with tube of tank), and/or the chain length is too short (one link or two)

Put some cake dye in the tank in the back and you will see it showing up in the bowl....the flapper in the bottom of the tank is leaking very, very, slowly into the bowl....

You have dirt in the supply tube or the valve...
Depending on what valve is in the tank you can take the top off and wash the dirt out...
Otherwise you may have to replace the float valve inside your tank...

take off the tank cover and you'll see "the flapper" not sealed against the hole where the water goes to the bowl, the chain that holds the flapper might be tangled or flapper is real bad,.....you'll see what the problem is,..

Check to see if the chain that pulls the flapper up, is pulling the flapper up far enough. If it is not getting pulled up high enough, the water suction will pull it back down into the hole. You can adjust the length of the chain to remedy this if that is the problem.

take the lid off the tank and make sure that the chain is still conected from the flusher handle at the top of the tank to the plug at the bottom of the tank

Replace the flappers, and clean around the flapper seat.

Make sure the water level is 1/2 " below the large vertical tube by either bending the float rod down or adjust the skinny silver rod on a Fluidmaster unit.

it sounds like your flapper (flush valve) is leaking.
if you here your toilet filling up and no one flushed.
push down on flapper to see if you here the water stop leaking out. if so replace flapper. even if toilet is 1yr or less old. could be a bad flapper. hope this helps. duane :)

Yes. You will have to remove your tank from the bowl to replace the defective fill stack(the tube thing your flapper is attached to) it is not as hard as it seems.First remove water supply tube.Then remove the through the tank bolts. should be two of them. Lift off and turn tank upside down. remove spud gasket. Unscrew old stack. You should be able to get a universal kit to work with your tank and should come with all new parts including new flapper and spud gasket. You will need new through the tank bolts and note the sequence of assembly to get water tight seal on tank. Hope this helps

The hole your refering to is common in the manufacturing of toilets and is generally filled before it leaves the manufacturing. I have repaired several toilets, new toilets, all American Standard, using a good grade of epoxy - not silicone. I used West System epoxy as this is made for marine projects and surprisingly states "toilet repair" as one of the uses of their product. I'd suggest carefully chipping the smooth porcelan around the hole to give the epoxy something to grip. Use a knife or screwdriver to gently chip the edges and make sure the area is dry. Press the epoxy into the hole and give it enough time to cure before putting it back in service. Of course, if the toilet is less than a month old I suggest returning it and getting a new toilet.

I have the American Standard Champion 4 toilet. Water is leaking from the tank to the bowl causing the toilet to refill. I've replaced the flapper and cleaned the surface the flapper contact. Nothing seems to work.

This could be caused by a faulty relay or switch in the control panel. It is best to have a qualified technician inspect the control panel and replace any faulty components. If the issue persists after replacing the faulty components, then it could be a wiring issue and a qualified electrician should be consulted.

To make the water level higher in the pan, the outlet pipe must be higher.
