Do you have a programing manual I can get on line.

You posted under a timer that looks like UPM brand ET525C

Timer appears at bottom of page:
http://waterheatertimer.org/UPM-timers-and-manuals.html
If this is not your timer, then add a comment with description of timer, and buttons.
I can probably identify timer.

Here is 14-page low resolution manual for ET525C:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/UPM525-Manual.pdf

Also the following page shows Woods timers and manuals for identification of your timer:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html

If above links do not fit your timer, and you do not want to describe it by adding a comment, Fixya also offers phone support.
A fixya expert can help identify your timer and possibly give you a link to a manual for a fee.

How do i program the

You did not specify UPM outdoor timer model.
1)ET525C has 7 buttons, and is shaped like a computer mouse, and has a photocell
2)DT420 & ET420 are dusk-to-dawn timers with clear plastic cover
3)DT523 is dusk-to-dawn and shaped like apple phone
4) PT555 is box-type with a door and timer has 6 screw terminals

I'm going to shoot-wild and offer programming for the one shaped like a mouse, the ET525c.
Here is manual
Download manual if you have high-speed, so you can see print larger.
Manual has 10 pages so I can't repeat everything. You will have to read along with your copy of manual.
1) Timer has MODE choices: I will help you program specific on-off times.
2) Setting the clock: Press SET > press Up-Down to choose day of the week ... if today's newspaper says Friday, set timer to Friday
3) Press Set again to confirm day of week
4) Press arrows to set hour. If your watch says 10:30 am, click arrow until 10 am shows
5) Press Set to confirm hour
6) Press arrow to set minutes, until minutes match your watch.
7) Press Set again to confirm everything.

Clock is displayed now

Programming timer:
Timer gives you 20 programs
PROG1 PROG2 etc to 20
Each program needs a DAY it will operate
Each program has ON time, and OFF time
PROG1 ON
PROG1 OFF
Select PROG1 using UP key
Manual page 6 has diagram showing how display looks
Press UP until PROG1 ON shows
Notice: PROG shows in upper right corner, and 1 ON displays to the right of time
This means PROG1 ON

Note: sometimes the instructions say press UP, and sometimes they say press UP or Down ... when in doubt, write out the instructions, and it helps you understand.

Now press Set to begin
Press UP and different days will show. MO for Monday, Weekdays, weekends.
Press Set to confirm days you want PROG1 to turn ON
Press UP or DOWN to set hour you want PROG1 to turn ON
Press Set to confirm hour
Press UP or DOWN to set minutes you want PROG1 to turn ON
Press Set to confirm hour

Half way done with PROG1, you need to set PROG1 OFF times

Press UP until PROG1 OFF shows
Look at display, and look at figure page 6 manual
To right of time is number 1 with tiny word OFF, in upper right corner of display is PROG

Press Set to start
Press arrows until day shows (default will flash same days you picked for ON times) Tip: keep the same days!!! or timer will reset ON times for some reason.
Press Set to confirm days timer will turn PROG1 OFF
Press UP and DOWN to set hour for PROG1 OFF
Press Set to confirm hour
Press UP and DOWN to set minutes for PROG1 OFF

To advance to PROG2, PROG3, PROG4-20, press UP key

To end programing mode, press DOWN
If no keys are touched for 1 minute, timer returns to clock mode

Instructions carry on with more options, if problems persist, take aspirin and post again in the morning.

I have the UPM ETW 350 user manual. It is easy to follow up to and incl. setting on time BUT setting off time is a mystery. Is there a 1-800 nu. I can call to be waled thru?

http://waterheatertimer.org/UPM-timers-and-manuals.html This line of timers has mostly disappeared from market... I do not know who is offering tech support for the product. If you purchased the timer recently, it may be previously used or non-functioning. The manual is complicated and incomplete ... probably because they have built-in or intuitive steps that display when you program the timer... or they assume you want to fiddle around with their product. It appears the timer must be wired correctly prior to programming. http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-timers.html - you set the current time first... you toggle through menu choices using arrow keys... go to clock...press set.. toggle to find current day (today) and then press set button... then do the same for hour and minute... pressing set button to confirm each selection. - to program... you toggle through menu choices using arrow keys... when 1 ON appears on display... press set... select day or days for program 1 on using arrow keys... press set... select hour and minute... and press set after each to confirm selection. These steps confirm setting for program 1 ON ...the day hour and minute that program 1 turns ON Each ON program requires OFF program.. Probably the timer automatically displays program 1 OFF as soon as program 1 ON is set... then you follow same steps to select day, hour and minute for program 1 off. Repeat steps to set up to 20 programs. Do not touch buttons for period of time, and the timer probably displays current time and is ready to go, but manual is unclear about setting the mode.. http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-timers.html#in-wall Gene Water Heater Timers Save Money If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/gene_9f0ef4df2f9897e7

My switch does not have a whtie wire in it what do I do with the white wire from the timer?

Connect the timer white wire to bare ground wire.Open following link to read instructions:http://waterheatertimer.org/programmable.html#wireConnecting white to ground is not 100% code, but it is not dangerous in this instance since the clock motor is less than 3 watts.Or install battery-operated Intermatic ST01C timer that does not require Neutral wire:http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#ST01C If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/gene_9f0ef4df2f9897e7
