Mixer makes terrible sounds then stopped working

Hello Emily, the problem is the internal gears have broken, stripped or popped loose due to heavy loads during use. The solution is to go to the KA site and get a parts list for you model machine first thing. You can download it from here http://www.kitchenaid.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/OCManualsLiteratureSearchResultView?catalogId=10552&langId=-1&storeId=10202you will need the full model number for the correct parts list. then you will need about 30 minutes and an open work space and a couple plastic bags, a roll or paper towels and a little patience. Yow ill be opening the machine cover removing it and placing the screws in one of the bags and mark on the bag with sharpie pen "cover screws", next you will need to remove the transmission cover (messy) and removing the gasket, toss the gasket (you will be ordering a new one $6.00 bucks) place the cover and screws in bag and mark. then look at the gears inside you will see several, rotate by hand I believe that you will find the culprit, it is more than likely the "worm follower gear" BTW if you open the machine and the transmission cover is black plastic check it for cracks, it was a major cause of this problem some years ago and KA has since relsoved the problem by the use of an all metal transmission cover, if it is cracked you will need a new one ($26.00 plus shipping) now find the broken gear and order a new one and replace it. Next if the grease inside your mixer is not all watery you can reuse it by scraping out with a popsicle stick and put in something that you can easily get it back out of for later use. if the grease is all watery you will need new ($7.00 bucks) (all the parts can be bought at several sites on the internet at once to cut down on shipping) Then re-assemble. There are several good if long winded videos on youtube that go through the tear down and replacement and re-assembly of the 600 machine that will guide you through process. Good luck and be patient.

Gear worm 9706730

look for the 9709557, worm gear as whirlpool has changed a lot of part numbers and they do it all the time, what is the serial number on your mixer? as after a certain date they also changed the worm gear from 53 teeth to 60 teeth so you can't use the older 53 teeth in a 60 tooth system, date is very important here, get back to us, a good place to look is mending shed .com they have there parts listed as to which model they work in, but I pretty sure of the part number that I gave you here. Hope this helps

Replaced planetary gear and now makes a ticking sound

First what model number? you may not have ordered the correct part number for your mixer, second how old is your mixer, the new part may have to just work itself in due to wear on the center gear that the planetary gear turns inside of, if your mixer is relativity new but you have used it a lot (daily) it may be the same problem, wear on the center gear, if the planetary gear was stripped when you replaced it and you did not clean all the old grease out before you replaced it you may be hearing shards of metal grinding away at your old and new gear which means that you will have to replace both soon again, Hope that this gives you some help on the problem, Please let us know.

Removing worm follower gear in a Kitchenaid Professional 600 mixer

You need to drive the pin out with a punch. The pin should not be crimped on both ends, but could have been damaged if the gears stripped out.Page 6 of the service manual walks you through removing the worm follower gear and dropping the planetary. Here is a link to the service manual: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaid6qtservicemanual.pdfThank you,ColleenCustomer ServiceMendingShed.com800-339-9297

Where can I get the service manual for this model?

Hi, Bricklayer. You can find the parts diagram here: http://www.mendingshed.com/ka6pro.htmlAnd you can order replacement parts there. How old is your mixer? There was a time that they shipped with a plastic gearbox, and it frequently failed. Kitchenaid went back to all-metal parts after a while.I have the same issue, but there were no parts - just an attachment drive gear that does not turn.

I have a 6 qt kitchen aid mixer and the gears look fine all metal, it makes a humming noise but nothing moves. Any suggestions

If you haven't solved this problem yet, I have a couple suggestions.Take off the motor housing, be VERY careful where the exposed electrical contacts are, then plug it in and turn on the motor with no gears attached. If it spins, cycle through the speeds to make sure they all work, then if they do, revisit your gears. Turn them all by hand and make sure they move easily and smoothly. Make sure the teeth aren't too worn down. I don't know what model you have, but also check anything that holds gears on or in place to make sure they aren't loose or cracked. If the motor does not spin, look at the brushes (you could start by doing this if you wanted to, since they are far easier to take apart than the motor housing, but my guess is this isn't the problem). If the brushes are worn down to near the spring, buy new ones. If the brushes look fine, then either get real brave and pull open the motor to look for broken or worn out parts, or call an electrical engineer friend, or send it off to kitchenaid or a repair shop.

Kitchenaid 525 stopped working while mixing cookie dough

Let it completely cool and then start again. It overheated because your speed was set too low for the heaviness of the dough. I have burned up three kitchenaid stand mixers so far making bread. go up one setting at least; if it is straining, go up another.

Two small tabs located on each side of the sensor hold it in the motor housing. Pushing one side with a small flat screwdriver while pulling gently up on the sensor will work.

Kitchenaid stand mixer motor is dead and mixer won't turn on

Hello,There are a few reasons this might happen from ugly to easy lets start with easy and work to ugly.1. check the outlet you are plugging the mixer into...I know I know but it does happen2. The cord on the mixer might have a bad connection or one of the flag terminals may have come loose or broke, remember all metal fatigues. If you know how to uses a multi meter an easy check by removing the rear cover and check the power on the contacts from the end of cord that plugs into the wall and then goes into the mixer, you can check by Ohms testing (safer) or by live connection to the outlet in the wall.3. The brushes on the mixer, one or both may have reached end of life, easy and inexpensive fix. They are under the big plastic screw covers that you see on the side of your mixer. BTW they can only go in one way and if not replaced correctly the mixer will not work even if you have a brand new mixer. 4 The mixer may need a new speed control plate rather more involved because you have to speed tune the mixer after it is replaced but inexpensive and can be performed by anyone from the rear of mixer. BUT!!!! The speed control board may not be bad but only that the mixer needs to be speed tuned.5. It may be a phase control board gone bad, it is behind the speed control plate, again it can be replaced relatively easily but you also will have to speed tune the mixer and it will be a double digit cost on the part ($25.00-$30.00 unless you go to the internet and search sites, you may find on eBay for 12-15 dollars plus shipping. 6. We are now entering the ugly phase. the items above are all the electric problems that you can fix easily and inexpensively. The next requires a complete tear down of the mixer to replace the Stator and or Armature (the motor). You can do it but it will cost around $60-$70.00 dollars for the motor and then $6.00 for a new gasket which you will need as soon as you open the motor head. Some peeps just re-use the old I would not.BUT!!!!7. The gears may have stripped while you were using the machine on high and has frozen up so that when you turn it on it won't work. If that is the case then the mixer will have to have the gears and grease and gasket repaired. Gasket=$7.00, Grease=$17-$24.00, it only comes in quarts and you get 30 ounces but only need 6 for a re-grease, Gears, there are 3 and they run between $10.00 for one and up to $30.00 for the pinion tower. No way to tell from the info you sent.I have been fixing kitchenaid mixers for a while and I am only now replacing my first motor. So I think it is an easy to intermediate fix, DIY could spend 3 hours doing and spend $30.00 bucks on parts. The ugly $150.00 to $175.00 and I would recommend a service center do the motor because they will check all gears repack grease install new gasket and do a speed tune when they fix it. Kitchen aid mixers are great and sometimes need a little TLC and they will last for years and years. If you could explain further exactly what happened during the speed run up and what you were mixing and what model and serial number (can be found on white sticker under base of mixer in the base cavity). then I may be able to narrow down the repair / fix path. If this helps at all please let us know we like to hear if we are able to help.

Kp2671 mixer- I see some

There are only two places where Food Grade Grease is used: In the
Transmission Housing (normally installed with a gasket) and in the Planetary
Assembly (Agitator gear). Over times, the grease will get hot and turn into liquid.
The Beater shaft has an O-ring to prevent oil from leaking down, but there is
nothing to prevent oil from the Planetary from making its way down your mix.
Depending which model you have, it's time to open up your mixer, clean out
all the oil and replace it with fresh Kitchenaid Food Grade Grease.

Top part of mixer is loose. how to tighten?

I had the same problem.. not the top plate, but the whole head was wobbly. I fixed it by removing the top plate, then locating the three screws that hold the top to the base. These screws are under the motor. I had to remove the motor, but this also required taking the transmission cover off. Sounds harder than it really is. Once I tightened those three screws, the play went away.

Kitchenaid mixer motor makes loud grinding,

lgardash, Are you sure it's the motor or could it be the transmission?
It 'sounds' like you've got some transmission gear issues, and a situation similar to my wife's mixer, which we got new in Dec 2006. (Within a week of her first using it, she contacted KA Customer Care and the only 'care' they offered was an explanation that the new KA Pro Mixer gears are all metal and to expect it to be louder than previous models that used a plastic gear (to fail). Well, there's an acceptable level of noise, and an unacceptable level (you don't need to be a mechanical engineer to know when something doesn't sound right) and it seems that my wife's new mixer's operating noise level was always unacceptable. It finally 'died' this past October.) OK I've vented enough on KA... now what might be your problem(s)?
It could be as simple as thorough normal use the gears have shifted slightly in the transmission and the gear teeth are making different contact, hence the grinding/squeaky noise. The higher the speed, the louder, higher pitched sound you'll get. Alas, the noise may also be indicative of a potential gear failure (after our mixers increasing noisiness, the bevel gear broke and the mixer 'froze').
If your mixer is under warranty, contact Kitchenaid. If it's out of warranty, then take it apart and do a diagnostic exam of the gearing. Whatever you find you should be able to fix yourself. Be sure to have the Kitchenaid Part Manual (Part No. 8212278 Rev D) on hand if you attempt to disassemble yourself. It also lists all the parts so that you can determine, which parts, if any have failed. You'd think that the Kitchenaid name would warranty their mixers for a lifetime... So much for quality in America today!
I hope this helps, and good luck! - Howard, Burke, VA
