Sounds like a worm gear problem to me, it's impossible for the motor (armature) to move far enough to not drive the gear. There are driving pins in the system from fuse gear to paddle. 1) in the fuse gear 2) inside gearbox above planetary joining shaft to bevel gear 3) through planetary and shaft There is also one joining the little gear inside the planetary to the shaft, doubt you'd break that one though.

Adjust the head height first, flat paddle should just clear the bowl. Te head height adjustment can be seen in by the hinge looking from the front when the head is raised. Screw in (clockwise) to lower and out to raise. You cannot get the head lock right when head height is miles out

A bit if CRC and a lot of wriggling will get it off then a quick rubbing through the hole with a round file. Then make sure the shaft is perfectly clean. I think over time flour gets on the hole and tightens up the hole. You need to put a fair effort into the wriggling bit to get it off but easy fix after that.

I never got my mixer fixed so it is just sitting there taking up space....I have no idea how to fix this either. I wish you all the luck though.

If it is a tilt head mixer then adjust the screw which can be seen by tipping the head back and looking into the pivot point. Turn the screw CCW to raise the head and prevent the paddle from hitting the bottom of the bowl.

If it is a lift bowl mixer there is an adjusting screw on the frame of the stand behind the bowl holder mechanism. It rurns a cam which adjusts the height of the mixer.

clockwise to lower the head and counterclockwise to raise the head for more clearance for the beaters.

oh yes you can.:) pur some wesson oil into the sockets the beaters go into and a little around the button.. Let set a few minutes and work the beaters back and forth as you pull gently. Make sure it is unplugged!!!!!

Look at the brush from the side.. The surface that rides on the armature is curved> One leg is longer than the other leg. The long leg is the trailing and the short is the leading edge. Looking at the cooper end of the motor you can tell which way the motor rotates by the traces the brushes make. The leading edge will be on the clean side and the trailing edge is the side that is smeared black.on tthe copper. The long leg of the curve on each brush goes on the smearch side of those copper bars the brush rides on. Both brushes. Looking in the hole of the brush holders you will see what I mean. When you put the brushes in, you must make sure they are up against the copper and the springs are holding them down evenly.. You can lift the brush carefully and let it go to make sure it is working freely. Now, see if you can put an attachment on and turn it by hand. I'm not sure you will be able to so don't bend anything or hurt yourself.. Put the brush caps back on, remove the attachment and plug the mixer in.. Attachments off, fingers clear, turn it on. Does it run? If not, tap the mixer on its side with your hand.. Make sure the switch is on high. Tap it several times if need be. This is to straighten up the brushes to where the springs want them. When the motor starts turning, slight taps help. Keep it going until it picks up speed and let run for five minutes to seat the brushes. Let me know if it still won't run. I'll be watching for a comment from you.

Why would you raise the beater if you want it to reach the bottom of the bowl? You need to lower the beater. Turn the screw in until it just touches with empty bowl on high speed then turn it counter clockwise a 1/4 turn so it will just clear.

They are the motor brushes, you do not need to fiddle about with them. Take them out again, look at them, one corner is missing from the carbon block. Look in the hole with a torch, right at the bottom there is a small blocker in one corner, line up your missing corner on the brush with the blocker and put it back together. Stop fiddling about and make a cake.

It sounds like you removed the brushes, look in the hole and determine the orientation of the carbon brush( what you describe as magnet). Rotated 90 degrees may keep motor from running...

OK, I looked at my wife's Kitchen Aid to see exactly how this works. You must turn it slightly counterclockwise before you push up or it will not come off. It only has to turn slightly in order to be removed. If it will not turn to the left then I think you are on the right track. You have some dough that has gotten into the cavity of the dough hook. This may require that you spray hot water down into the cavity until enough of the dough comes out to allow you to push it up slightly. Takes very little movement up to allow it to come off. Dried dough is like glue and it may take some muscle to remove it. Turn it upside down so you can really apply some pressure. Have someone help hold it. Hope this helps.

Chrome drip ring off, knock pin out of planetary, remove planetary, back cover off, black wire and white wire off the control board (both on the same side at the bottom) undo 5 screws under planetary, undo 4 screws remaining in housing underside. Split cases.

New armature, new field assembly and new phase board will probably be a similar price to a step up transformer and a far better solution.

Put some pressure on the lever and at the same time give it a thump on the top at the front end with the heel of your hand.

It may be seizing up the bush that your accessory drive runs in, if you can see grindings in the front by the square drive that is a sign. Here in NZ that bush is only available as part of that whole top cover/housing. The accessory drive gear will also need to be replaced.

Turn the mixer over and look up where the pin goes through the two pieces. There is a screw there which secures the pin. Tap the pin into position and tighten the screw.
