my kitchenaid microwave oven does not heat anymore
everything else works but it will not warm anything up

With the price of Magnetrons and capacitors, and paying to service it, you are better off buying a new unit.

It should not pose a hazard as far as operation goes.. only if it becomes a sanitary issue..

Clean the interior per mfg suggestions.. and you may have to clean it more often now that you have this issue.

Microwaves cannot travel through metal.. you can actually use small pieces of foil (flat pieces) in most microwaves to shield items.. without any issues.

If the fan doesn't work the magnetron may overheat and burn out. Look for a seized motor.
The light may be just a blown lamp.

I'm assuming your correct model number is KCMS145JSS? You have a broken "release lever", part number AP3033332. You will need to check to find out if the microwave has all the power coming to the critical units.
If the latch switch is active then the turntable and fan must work but if there is no heat, the check on the thermal cut off switch fitted on the side of the cabin , if faulty. , the pwoerr will be cut off to the magnetron. Check also to confirm that the high voltage capacitor is working and not shorted or open.
The relay on the main boarrd also must click to switch on or else the relay or relay drive must also be checked out.

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be ready to burn out. If you smell the burning, you should then unplug the microwave, open it up and see if you can determine for sure that it is coming from that part. Unfortunately even if I am right, it is almost more cost effective to just replace the microwave rather than replace that part. You can run this microwave till it dies if you want, but I would be ready with a new one.

call kitchenaid and complain they might fix it under warranty or replace the unit,, or possibly heard of this and have a fix i persoonally never heard about it good luck mate

theres a fuse behind the panel buttons. check it. make sure ur breaker isnt triped on ur electrical panel

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems the issue is Magnetron that has gone bad and needs to be replaced. However, many things can do this but, common things are....loose high voltage wire.....poor solder joint on board.....magnetron.....power relay.....
