Contant humming noise, even when
The constant humming noise you hear when the microwave is plugged-in but not running is caused by the Low Voltage Transformer, which is located inside the back wall of the outer cabinet on the left side. If the microwave is working properly otherwise, there is no hazard, just the annoying noise.
To access the transformer, the microwave must be taken down and the outer cover removed. The transformer is held to the back wall of the cabinet with four screws, and there are two sets of leads with pull-apart connectors. The noise is the result of 60hz vibration being transmitted to the sheet metal from the transformer which may not have been sufficiently "potted" or otherwise mechanically isolated when manufactured. You can either replace the transformer or try wedging some thin rubber or other material between the transformer and the sheet metal to quiet the noise. Just be careful to not damage the windings!

BE CAREFULL!!
The magnetron has either failed or is
not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run
it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!!
before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the diode with either
an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the feed
fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally,
the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.
Accidentally ran my KHMS155LSS-1 KitchenAid
Hi,
If the unit quit working while cooking then your not in a good situation.
There are 3 fuses/cut off thermostats inside the unit that if they
break when in use--means something else caused them to break and you
have another problem.
You will have to pull the unit completely
down and then take off the outer case of the unit to look inside. The
most common fuse that breaks is located just behind the control panel
and it's a 1" long ceramic cylinder fuse. If it has no continuity then
get another and see what happens when you start the cycle.
I
should warn you that microwaves are the one appliance not recommended
for do-it-yourselfers because they store a charge in the capacitor and
if not handled correctly and you touch the wrong wire it can actually
KILL you.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
My Kitchenaid microwave goes in
My Whirlpool elite does the same thing when i have the exhaust running while cooking hot stuff. The phrase No Mains with a cartoon character jumping up and down on the lcd display. Tech support claims its low voltage. But my voltage is fine. Moving the plug to a different circuit doesn't help. Unplugging it for an hour seems to be a temporary fix because the problem happens again.

It's most likely a blown magnetron thermostat, but you should also check the fuse and the oven cavity thermostat.

Accessing the thermostats for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.
If
so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have
two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.
