Honda EU6500iS Inverter Generator - Page 3 Questions & Answers
My Honda em5000s will not start. I changed the oil and put in a new sparkplug. I tried using starting fluid. Cleaned fuel filter/bowl. I pull but it won't fire.
To have success using starter fluid as a diagnostic you will need to remove the air filter cover and element. Then with choke open make a short (1 second) burst of starter fluid directly into the carburetor throat. (There is no need to saturate the intake with starter fluid... it is bad practice.) Promptly pull starter cord no more than 3 times. If you have compression and proper spark, it will fire and run for 1-3 seconds and stop as it will have expended the available fuel (starter fluid).
If it doesn't fire, repeat procedure. If still doesn't fire, likely no spark or plug is fouled. Promptly remove spark plug and check that plug is dry. Then check it has proper gap and you have spark. A wet plug will imply it is flooded and a flooded engine will not fire even with starter fluid.
If it does fire, then the likely problem is no fuel or water in fuel. Drain fuel bowl and some fuel (1/2 pint) from tank (just open fuel shutoff valve with carb bowl drain open) into a clear glass jar, let set for a minute and check for visible water line. If water visible, drain tank and refill with fresh fuel (use a clean EMPTY fuel container go to filling station and get 2 gal. fresh). If no water, then likely carburetor is fouled and will need service.
Ryobi 5500 generator, ran 1 day couldn't crank next /did usual drain gas, clean carb. acts like valve to me- build up under valve cover. Is this honda or a knock-off
If it's on a Ryobi Generator then it should be a real Honda Engine. It's possible that it's a knock off or was replaced with one. If you bought it new from a reputable source then it's real, if it's used or came from an offshore source for a really low price then it's a good possibility that it's a kkoxk off. In all honesty, from my experience they do a great job with the knock off engines & they're usually reliable and last a normal life span similar to a real name brand.
Either way, that mechanical Issue Remains, I'm assuming you're refering to the valve being stuck and basically keeping the engine locked up and not allowing it to the over when attempting to start it. Sounds likely. Did you take the spark plug out and turn it over to see if it'll turn over at all to ensure it's not just totally locked up? My suggestion would be to Remove the valve cover and spark plug so that you can see the valvetrain in action when(if so) it is turning over and observe it to see if your valve theory is correct!
Thanks and good luck my friend, see the infinity below please, have a great day!
What do you need to do to prepare a Honda 3000i handi generator for high altitude operation
The reduced atmospheric pressure at high altitude means the standard carburettor settings will not allow sufficient fuel to flow for efficient running.
The dealer or manufacturer should be able to provide details of alternative settings - the jet sizes are usually increased a few points for every 5000 ft above sea level.
The cooler temperatures experienced at high altitude would probably change the engine oil specification to a lighter or thinner grade.
Why does my honda eu2000 generator kickback when I pull start it
Likely a valve stuck open. Pop the head off and verify. If so, try to free it by spraying a a light oil around the valve stem and possibly rotating the valve to free it. If you damaged the head gasket removing the head, it will have to be replaced. Be careful to torque the headbolts symmetrically so as not to crack the head. There will be a troque spec but I do not know what that is.
