Rowenta DG-980 Iron Questions & Answers
On off switch broken, how to fix?
The switch is an obsolete part. The part has been discontinued and no longer available. You cannot fix the switch. It must be replaced.
Why won't my red light quit blinking?
each time you clean the steamer or refill with water always press and hold the reset button for about 30 seconds, whiles the steamer is on.
hope my answer helps you.
Pump wont run
Clean an iron:
- Unplug the iron and make sure it is cool before cleaning.
- Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to remove buildup in the steam vents, making sure the debris doesn't fall into the vents.
- Use a fine sewing needle to carefully clean the spray nozzle of mineral deposits.
- To flush sediment from a steam iron, pour 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar into the water tank. Place the iron on a rack over a broiling pan and set the iron to steam until the tank runs dry. Repeat if necessary. Or follow the instructions for using a commercial iron cleaner.
Service the steam and spray mechanism:
- Unplug the iron.
- Use a fine sewing needle to unclog the steam valve assembly. Also, check the valve spring and replace it if it is broken or has lost tension.
- If the spray pump is accessible, remove it and check for leaks by placing the spray tube in water and squirting the pump. Clean or replace as needed.
- God bless you
Bottom of iron has scale build up
Sounds like you need to clean the iron. Try equal parts of white vinegar and distilled water. Fill the reservoir with the mixture, turn iron to highest setting and place the tron on a wire rack in a baking pan lined with ab old towel. Repeat if needed, Rinse iron with a cycle pf distulled water. Clean iron in a ventillated area since vinegar odor will be strong.
Steam is not coming out of the iron....
I'm not an iron expert, but assuming you have water in it I would think that either the iron isn't warming OR there is internal restriction from mineral build-up preventing the water to flow. Is this a new iron or a well used one?
Where can I order the
Rowenta RS-DG0123 Knob Trigger, Bluehttp://www.smallappliance.com/product.asp?pid=4477&cur=USD&cam=GA_B_rowenta_partCarefully pry off blue handle cover on top with a popsicle stick.A quick (maybe permanent) fix while waiting for your part: you can "weld" the plastic trigger back together. It doesn't have enough surface area for glue. Position the break back together. Secure parts so they don't move. Heat a medium-small flat blade screwdriver until it will
just melt the plastic with a gentle touch. Touch the tip parallel to the break and melt a shallow groove about 1/4 of the way into the break. You should be centered on the break so you melt a bit of each piece. This will be the start of melting the two pieces together. Now, as you do each side of the break, use the flat of the blade to "trowel" the curled up plastic back into the groove you just made. Be careful not to distort the side that activates the switch. Ours is holding so well that I keep the new part in case this ever breaks again.
Less is more: use only enough heat to melt the plastic with a gentle touch. If it's red-hot you went WAY too far. You can always try more heat, but if you fry the part, you are done until your new part comes.
Sand like particles come out when pressing the
I'm guessing that these particles are white or almost white. If so, it is just a build up of chalk from hard water. You will probably find that they just brush off the clothing with your hand. Just buy yourself a proprietary steam iron descaler and follow the instructions, all should be well
I have an older model
Frankly, I never use or "need" to use deposit removers (vinegar or CLR) just because I only use filtered water in the tank and use all the water until the unit is totally dry, using the blast of steam to clear out as much as possible. I remove the blue reservoir entirely, wait for the iron to be totally cool to the touch, open up the trim knob and sloted metal screw with a penny and shake out the rest of the water as much as possible. I leave the whole works to dry overnight or longer and only then do we pack it back up for storate. Just my way, don't like putting acids or salts into any metal tank for safety reason.
Leaking water when I push
It sounds like you do not have the heater setting not high enough to provide vaporize the water in the heater tank. Did you adjust the temperature on the main unit to the "cloud" (steam) setting? I would also check when the unit is cold that the reservoir (behind the trim knob is a metal screw (use a penny to remove it) and shake out all water in there. I always use the burst of steam when I am finished to purge the system of all standing water. Also make sure you only use clear filtered drinking water with low mineral content (I use our kitchen Reverse Osmosis 5 stage Water filter in the iron only).
I ironed over the rubber
Get wax paper from the kitchen, an put some salt on the wax paper turn ur iron on an just keep rolling on the salt it will get your iron clean and it will it keep it clean if you do this often.

The problem will be with the level switch in the tank.
I've checked for a service manual without any luck and checked all the spares sites I know and there's no reference to a replacement level switch.
How would you be for opening the base and checking for loose or broken connections?
The rocker button to enable
The stem rod for the steam control is choke or faulty. These prevent the water going onto the sole plate that why no steam. It is possible that there is dirt that has accumulated into the stem of the steam button and is sticking the button. It is better to remove the lid and make a good cleaning to free the movement. use good spray of jet air, use WD40 to remove dirt and free.----------------
Pull the button up. You may have to coax it up; You can pry it back to the up position with a needle. Grasp it firmly and pull it straight off (it is fitted in place by friction only). Below the button is a stem that operates the valve, gently full it back up with a pair of needle nose pliers (careful - the stem is plastic). Replace the button (align the stem into the hole on the bottom of the button. Cycle the button a few times with water in the reservoir. It seems like it sticks when the iron is left unused for a period of time; or the dirt get collected under the button. As if the valve sticks when dry. You can leave some water in it when not in use.
